4DWN
Why 4DWN is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family
4DWN is a transformative nonprofit community center and skatepark located in South Dallas, co-founded by pro skaters Mike Crum and Rob Cahill. Originally established to provide a private vert ramp for skating enthusiasts, it has since evolved into a vibrant hub that combines skateboarding, art, and sustainable food initiatives to serve the local community. What makes 4DWN an exceptional place to gather with friends is not just its skatepark facilities but its strong community spirit and multi-functional use. The space offers more than just recreation; it integrates educational programs, urban farming through hydroponic gardens, and food rescue efforts to tackle food insecurity in a neighborhood challenged by poverty and limited access to nutritious food and safe play areas.
Visitors can enjoy skating on well-designed concrete ramps incorporating elements such as converted shipping containers, which house hydroponic gardens growing fresh produce. The skatepark is uniquely solar-powered, reflecting the organization’s commitment to sustainability. Additionally, 4DWN offers community cold storage facilities that support food distribution for multiple nonprofits, ensuring that donated food is safely stored and distributed efficiently. Partnering with local culinary initiatives such as Dive Coastal Cuisine, the space also promotes urban agriculture and nutritional education through its vertical farms and cooking camps. This combination of physical activity, creative expression, and food security programs creates an inclusive environment perfect for friends and families looking for a meaningful and fun gathering place that also contributes positively to the neighborhood’s resilience and well-being.

I've always wanted to check this place out since hearing about last year. However, when I visited (Jan 2025) the outdoor ramps were being dismantled and completely rebuilt / repaired. However, they do have a pretty cool indoor skating area as well as a nice concrete corner area outside near the ramps. 4DWN also has a store for picking up whatever you need before skating. Oh yeah... lots of beautiful cats here too!

We are visiting from out of town and wanted to stop by a local skate shop. Will was incredibly kind and welcoming. We purchased a few hats and Will offered my boyfriend to borrow a board and skate a little bit. It was a great stop and would recommend to anyone looking for a great indoor spot to skateboard!

Had an awesome time at the 4DWN experience 10th year anniversary. The event was well organized with a great mix of skaters, from pro to beginners, and the energy was electric. Music was great, the crowd was super supportive, and there was a mix of street and ramp setups. I got to pull off tricks I've been working on for weeks. Definitely recommend checking it out if you're into a skate scene or just want to experience the vibe. Can't wait for the next one!

4DWN is the place I’ve been looking for. Not just to skate but to be apart of a community. The people part of the organization a genuinely nice people looking to make a difference. The skaters are great to be around and are motivating. The Sunday food drives are a great place to teach my kids the value of volunteering. They also hold super cool events! There always a documentary showing over the weekend for a film called Across America. There was best trick contest and QA afterwords. Many more events to come!
