The Alamo Drafthouse in Mountain View (MV)! Having been to other Alamo locations (i.e. San Francisco, Downtown LA and NYC) this is - by far - the most spacious, clean and newest theater I’ve been at. It’s still a few weeks since they’ve opened in MV. To be transparent, I do have the $30 Alamo monthly pass. MV charges an extra $4 for their Premium “Big Show” theaters when reserving tickets. Before my visit, I read the other Google Reviews in advance. The quick summary below is my personal experience today in early July 2025: Pros: - The “Alamo experience” which includes no talking, texting or web browsing on your smartphone during the movie plus ordering by writing down your selections on paper 📝 and hitting the server button on your tray table. - Chair: As been mentioned in other reviews, they do not have lie-flat seats. I would say it’s similar to an AMC Theater seat that reclines about 30% along with a footrest that pops up as you recline. - The “Big Show” Theater. I saw F1 in Theater #2, one of the Big Show theaters. The sound system was Dolby Atmos and you felt like you were at the Race Track. The Screen itself was larger than any other Alamo Movie Screen I’ve been to and similar to the big screens at other movie chains. - Alamo Waiter Staff: when you go to any Starbucks or Trader Joe’s, one expects a certain level of service that should be consistent. Unlike other reviews I saw, no problem today. My Alamo Server, Joshua, was great/trained well. It was like he’s been there for years - so hoping other MV Alamo staff mirror Joshua’s customer service 👏 - Overall Theater facilities: it still has that new theater scent as it’s only 3-weeks in operation. When compared to the traditional Alamo locations I’ve attended, Alamo MV has a few “Big Show” theaters that match the big theaters in Cinemark or AMC. The hallways are spacious. The bathrooms have personal soap and hand dryers at each sink - similar to a few airports I’ve been at. Cons: - Theater Temperature: I was at one of the first movie showings of the day. Apparently, they turn off the A/C after hours. I suggested to the Alamo front desk host that perhaps they can turn on the A/C 30-mins to 60-mins prior to their daily opening. As we are in the Summer in Silicon Valley, you expect a blast of Cool Air once you enter the front doors. This is an easily correctable issue, which I hope they heed my suggestion. Verdict: As a SF Resident, it’s about a hour Caltrain ride (to the San Antonio Station), each way. Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY! I think I found my favorite Bay Area Movie Theater and will certainly be back for the big blockbuster movies in the upcoming weeks. Alamo Mountain View may have a few Grand Opening issues to address (i.e. Theater Temperature, consistent Alamo serving staff protocol.) Give them time, they’ll work it out eventually. This is the largest and most spacious Alamo location I’ve been to with a few LARGE seating capacity theaters. Can’t wait to be back! 🍿 🎞️

Caught the opening Star Wars show and ribbon cutting. The good: The in movie ordering and the menu are handled delightfully. Definitely thought trying to write on paper would be unwieldy, but was surprisingly easy, and getting a water refilled during the movie is an absolute delight of a cinema experience. The popcorn and mozzarella sticks were excellent, as well as the screen, sound, and ambiance. Also, no ads and a preshow that would have had the movie starting on time (if not for the ribbon ceremony) is just a breath of fresh air to the cinematic experience. The bad: This being the second day of operation As mentioned elsewhere no lie flat seats, which makes sense with the foot traffic. Also at my height (6’5) and a long torso, the headrest of the seats presses into my back. While I definitely see the value in the monthly movie passes, the fact that my back was hurting after one show means that I will likely continue to rarely make it out to the theater. To be fair, this has been an issue at every movie theater, but I had brought high hopes with the new seats replacing the century cinema ones which had that same flaw. I wish they could install tall seats so I could properly enjoy this experience. For those not that tall though, it is an excellent cinema, and everyone should visit!

The dine in experience is great, unique, and fun. The cinema is not cold. It’s warmer than other cinemas, but not warm enough to make you sweat. Probably more eco friendly? I think we just have the expectation that the cinema is usually cold. The Dolby stereo is great. The recliner is the thing that needs to be improved the most. The head pillow is too low that it actually set around my back even that I’m not very tall. It can be more ergonomic. The popcorn can be improved. I ordered the one with the churros. The syrup makes the popcorn wet. Better don’t add the syrup?

Not going back lol. Showicon was the shit! Alamo really downgraded the seats and you have to order through a piece of paper what you want they have a menu under the eating table they have a button you push to alert the server... Ordered a beer it took 15 minutes to arrive.. And ordered a small pizza I swear it took one hour I timed it. I had seen the other reviews but I wanted to see for myself because I wait a whole YEAR for them to open just so it can be dissapointing... They don't have any touch screen kiosk things to order it sucks.. Oh and also I was sweating buckets it's hot asf they need AC up in there. Seats were mid too your legs don't go all the way up how they used to and my back hurt after a while.. Not going back. If they don't fix these things they'll run out of buisness. shout out to the servers though they really try atleast I feel like they need to hire more... Movie sounds great either than that..

Edit: I have since revisited this theater and the experience has improved. While not perfect, the waiters were getting better with the process and they have all been kind. I will likely go again as they do offer screenings most chain theaters do not. Hopefully, as time goes on this place will only improve with their service. The staff do lack a lot of training. They were as distracting if someone were to talk during the movie or go on their phones. The reason being is the waiters would bump in the back of my seat, many were lost in an attempt to give people their food and drinks (don't know which row or seats to get to), ask me to pay as the movie was still playing with 15-20 minutes left, and took my credit card without returning by the end of the movie. Thankfully, the manager was super kind and responsive. He was eager to help me retrieve my card back. The theater venue itself is lovely. Comfy seats, greats screens and speakers. I also really love the variety of movies they play and the food they offer. I was ultimately hoping for a better experience than I received. I was really looking forward to Alamo Drafthouse opening more locations in the Bay Area. I only hope that the staff are on a learning curve and will improve with time.
