I’m a beginning pottery student and this summer I really wanted to jump into learning how to throw on the wheel as well as learn hand building skills. I happened upon AlSi by chance and I couldn’t be happier. AlSi is an extraordinary teaching studio with EXCELLENT instructors who are able to teach beginners or more skilled potters. I absolutely love their student driven way of teaching all level classes in the round! They will do any demo requested and always have multiple ways of showing you how to do the same thing which is so helpful. I also really appreciate that they have hours every day of the week and plenty of open studio time available for as much practice as you want. The studio is very student driven and it is clearly evident that teaching is their passion. I appreciate that they are always around to answer questions and give you feedback and help with what you’re struggling with. They want for their students to succeed and you feel that. Another huge thing is that they have so many different firing possibilities!!! (Oxidation, Reduction, Salt, Raku, Cone 10 and they are working on getting Soda too!). I can’t recommend this place enough! It is a FIVE STAR studio all around! ♥️♥️♥️

This is a great studio! We did a Valentines Day special on a whim and ended coming back a few more times to wrap up projects we got started with. Frog was our instructor and was very, very knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. He had tons of patience (this stuff is not easy!) and walked us through each aspect of the process. Everyone I met at that space had a collective sense of respect for the space and loved what they were doing. We got to see a lot of people’s projects and the talent here is off the charts. Would 100% recommend coming here whether you’re a total newby like me or an expert looking for a space to make ceramics.

AlSi is an amazing studio! The space is huge, there are so many firing options, but most importantly, the teachers are incredible!! They are knowledgeable, creative and daring! Love them all but, as a handbuilder, having an artist of Mara's caliber actually teaching a sculpture class has been nothing short of mind blowing!

Absolutely love this studio! The owners and instructors are super welcoming and knowledgeable. The studio space is huge and they offer so many different firings that other local studios don’t have. I’m registered for my 3rd class here and look forward to taking many many more! :D

This studio has been such a wonderful experience! The classes are inclusive of all levels, relaxing, and fun. I love that we get to spend all our time practicing on the wheel and learning the full process with supportive and kind instructors and community. I haven't touched clay since elementary school and now I look forward to it. Thanks!

The studio also offers lessons in glazing, where you can decorate your pieces using different colors and finishes to add personality and flair. What makes the firing workshops unique at AlSi Ceramics?
One of the most distinctive offerings at AlSi Ceramics is its onsite firing workshops, which provide participants with the rare opportunity to engage directly with essential ceramic finishing processes. Unlike typical studios that may only offer basic kiln firings, AlSi Ceramics introduces advanced firing techniques such as soda, salt, and raku firings. These methods involve introducing specific elements into the kiln atmosphere that chemically interact with the clay surfaces, producing beautiful, unpredictable patterns and textures. A soda firing, for example, uses soda ash vapor to create a glossy, textured finish, while salt firing results in a characteristic orange peel texture, and raku firing involves rapid cooling to generate crackle effects on the glaze. These firing techniques offer an exciting element of surprise and creativity, as no two pieces ever turn out exactly the same. For groups, participating in these workshops together makes for a captivating shared experience filled with anticipation and discovery. It enriches the artistic process and deepens appreciation for the craft, turning a meetup into an unforgettable journey through tradition and innovation in ceramics.
