We showed up and discovered that you CAN make reservations here (couldn’t find anything online) and everything was reserved. Here’s a QR code and number for others who want to use this area in the future. There are several non-reservable fire pit areas for day use five minutes down the hill from this site. If you show up early enough, you can snag one. There are pit toilets, fire pits, and a creek where you can grab water to put your fire out. You pay $5 on the way out.

Ahhh, getting away from the heat and bustle of the city. We got on the bike and headed up the canyon to the Alva Alexander Fire Pit picnic area up Mill Creek Canyon. Not too far but the temps dropped 15 degrees and it was delightful in the shade of the trees, right next to the stream flowing down the mountain. The Fire Pit is brand new as they just pulled out the old broken concrete fire pit and put in a new high steel one. I'm sure it's for safety reasons. 3 picnic tables, fire pit, 1 BBQ pit with grill and 2 other table thingies to make it a perfect picnic spot. There were a few other picnic spots further up and a bathroom on the other side of the parking lot. I think we found the best spot there. We started the fire and got the coals going and then put in the tin foil dinners to cook away. We are new to this, so 30 minutes is a bit too long and if we'd flipped them over, I think 15 minutes would have been perfect. As it was, it was a fine meal with good family and friends. Thanks Wasatch National Forest! We had a great time!
