i got to visit Always Here with a big group of indie booksellers during children’s institute and it was easily my favorite stop on the route. SO much queer joy and love and literature packed into one space, and john and raf were so kind and patient with the giant crowd of us that popped up at once. the space is clearly a staple in the community, with so many events and clubs taking place, and even though i may not live in portland i’m grateful it (and they!) exist. can’t wait to go back!

Always Here is the coolest bookstore in Portland. From the awesome owners to the community-minded lockers, Always Here really does feel like a safe space. They have the sweetest children’s book area, and the best sticker selection around. The little free zine area is an awesome addition. Finally, their open advocacy for basic human rights is also very appreciated 🫶🏼

Visited for the first time this weekend after being a long time supporter online, and it was such a treat! A great selection of books and goodies, and I especially loved the children’s book options. I also love this shop’s commitment to community safety and accessibility by requiring masks! ❤️🌈

Yesterday I needed one stamp to mail a condolence card. I asked the employee if they sell stamps, they didn't. But in a random act of kindness, she went to the back of the store and got one for me. One good deed a day goes a long way. She made my day. So businesses with employees like this deserve to be highlighted, kindness goes a long way. I wish her good health & lasting happiness, I wish I asked for her name, but I will always remember her.
