Not inexpensive but the meal was amazing. All cuts of beef and fish are prepared in house and aged accordingly. Each steak is sized to share for 2 persons. Probably the best steaks we had that we could remember. Knowledge by waiter gives confidence into what steak to order. We had the bone in strip steaks from Spain and Texas. Both unique in flavor, but both very tender. Martinis very good as well. A must try for steak or fish.

Wow. What a great night - overall excellent. My party of 5 had a great dinner from start to finish (outside of trying to ring the doorbell upstairs vs step down to the restaurant). Our waiter was the best I’ve ever had… anywhere. The food was excellent. And the atmosphere was great. My favorites were the dirty dirty martini, the steak (can’t remember which one), anchovy, and the lobster bite. Can’t wait to come here again.

Being ranked 13th on the world’s best steakhouse list curated by a media company with decades of expertise in hospitality and gastronomy is no small feat. I was already curious about Asador Bastian but once I saw that ranking, I knew I had to see for myself what all the praise was about. Now I get why people talk about this place the way they do. Tucked inside a renovated historic townhouse, the restaurant is unassuming from the outside. It gives off that quiet luxury vibe of being not necessarily popular but certainly known. We sat at the bar and were immediately struck by the space right when we walked in: dark, intimate, and elegant. Service was excellent: warm and conversational, yet sharply attentive and efficient. We started with the black truffle beef tartare and it easily ranks among the best I’ve had in the city. The dish was deeply umami with the salt-cured foie gras and generous black truffle shavings intensifying the already savory beef. For the main, we visited the dry-aging room to get a good look at all the options before settling on the Masami. The steak was cooked perfectly with a beautiful crust on the outside that smelled uncannily like buttery popcorn. It tasted phenomenal: bold, deeply flavoured with complex marbling and an incredible earthy depth. Asador proudly sources older cattle which offers a greater depth of flavor with the trade-off of a slightly more toothsome texture. Despite this, the steak still remained remarkably succulent. The tangy Guindilla peppers served alongside were ideal to cut the meatiness. My friend couldn’t stop raving about the bone marrow potato purée. Asador Bastian is a splurge best saved for special occasions but it sure is as impressive as you'd hope. It offers an overall more intimate and elevated experience compared to the louder, clubby institutions that dominate Chicago’s steakhouse scene.

I booked this restaurant a month before the arrival and had high expectations. The service from our waiter was exceptional. He was extremely patient and knowledgeable about the food. The restaurant has a nice overall atmosphere. However, given the price and expectations, the food was somewhat mediocre compared to similar steakhouses I have had before. Specifically, the steak could be more flavorful. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant for service and atmosphere rather than food (especially the steak) itself.

Truly an unique restaurant experience. One of the best steak restaurants in the world has a sizing sea food. The service was attentive and they were not in a hurry. Not cheap but the price is a great value compared to other steak restaurants in Chicago.
