Went with a friend to the Asean Streat Food Hall a few days back. While there were many options in a small food court they did not let you look at the menus of the many food vendors other than the main computer kiosk which took awhile to order from as there were so many options. The food we ordered was great and flavorful. We got a few dishes and shared which was nice. We got the buns as well as a curry and vegetable mix as well as a Pad Se Ew with wide noodles which was quite good too. This is a great lunch or dinner spot to grab something quick and tasty!

I wish I could write a review only for the pho instead of the food village as a whole because there are still some things I want to try here that look good. But alas, I must warn everybody not to eat the pho here. If any of you have ever gotten the instant pho from Viet-Wah that comes in the little plastic bowls, then this is basically the same thing except it costs $24. I understand that Westlake center is going to have expensive rent, so the price of the bowl doesn't actually offend me by itself since a lot of people have had to raise their prices but still provide good food, like pho4U. It's the fact that this $24 bowl doesn't taste any better than an instant bowl of pho that I must warn everybody not to order this. There is almost no depth to the broth, it's just like putting a beef bouillon cube inside a bowl of hot water. Judging by the square pieces of brisket that I found in the bowl, it seems that this pho is inspired by the Singaporean or Malay palate as the only other time I've had ball with square brisket is in the MBS in Singapore. However, unlike Singapore, this place's recipie does not work at all. The only good thing I can find about this bowl is that they give you culantro (ngò gai) by default, but not very much. I feel like I've martyred my tongue for this review. Almost any pho place would be better. Pho City on 4th Ave sucks, but it's still better than this place. Vietnam cafe in Ballard is much too sweet, but I would rather eat there than this pho. Lucky's Pho is an affront to Pho and calling anything with shitake mushrooms pho is sacrilege, and while the pho at Asean is not as horrific as Lucky's my first thought after the first bite of Asean's pho was whether it was worse than Lucky's or not. I will be back to try the hainanese chicken rice.

A fun place to get a variety of food. The idea is the place is mocked up to mimic an Asian street market with several food vendors. It’s even decorated to evoke being on the street. That gives you several different kinds of food to order at one place. I can’t speak to the level of authenticity, but it’s a fun way to deliver variety. I ordered food and drink from separate “vendors” and it worked pretty well. I had to go to the different stalls to get the different food, but they were ready at the same time. There are tablets set up all over the place to put in your order, that should be handy when it’s busy. The food tasted great as well. It was a little pricey for being “street food” but not too much to be discouraging. They’re calling out order numbers over the speaker to pick up food all the time. So, if you’re dining in, be prepared for that. I wasn’t bothered but it could get to be a lot if it were busy. Well worth a browse. If you want a quick meal, this is a great option.
