I entered into a lease agreement with Avalon Housing Program as a private landlord, with the good intention of providing a residential unit for someone temporarily experiencing homelessness. Initially, the rental application and lease clearly indicated that one person would occupy the space. However, shortly after signing, two occupants moved in without authorization. I have communicated multiple times with both the tenants and the program coordinator, explaining that unauthorized occupants are not permitted under the lease agreement. Unfortunately, despite my efforts to address this issue respectfully and professionally, Avalon Housing Program has not responded to my inquiries or provided any resolution. As a landlord who supports housing initiatives, I value programs that aim to help vulnerable populations. However, clear communication, accountability, and adherence to agreements are essential for these partnerships to work effectively. I hope Avalon Housing Program will address these issues and improve its practices to support both landlords and tenants moving forward.
