The course and layout are great with some great city views. Some challenging holes, not as forgiving. It seems as if they spent all of their money on the course and haven’t spent a dime in any of the facilities (as a golfer I’m okay with) but I would definitely go back and play.

What a treat to play this course. If you can get on, play it. It's hard to find times being a top-tier SD muni in the same group with Torrey. The only way I could get out was with an SD resident friend who has the resident card. The course is tough even though it's only 6,400 yards from the tips. Some amazing vistas of the San Diego skyline to be enjoyed. Keep your ball in play and you can score. Greens are huge, hard and fast. Spend plenty of time on the practice green which is a great representation of what the greens on the course are. Keep your ball below the hole. Most greens slope back to front. Try to get out with someone who knows the layout. It saved me on more than one occasion.

This is an excellent golf course and we San Diegans are lucky to have this absolute gem of a course. It’s a hard course, but it is beautiful. And the challenge makes us better at golf.

It’s a green course iconic of San Diego. It was my first time going there some of the views of the city. I was shocked to see how good the greens were kept.

Furthermore, the practice facilities and golf lessons enhance the group's ability to engage together, fostering team spirit and learning. The availability of rentals, carts, and a well-stocked pro shop mean there are no barriers to participation. Finally, scenic views and nearby attractions make Balboa Park more than just a golf course—it's a vibrant destination that complements outdoor activity with urban convenience and beautiful natural surroundings.

What makes the golf course challenging and enjoyable for everyone? Balboa Park Golf Course challenges players through its traditional, tree-lined design with uneven lies and strategically placed bunkers that require precise drives and iron shots. Its hilly terrain adds an extra layer of difficulty while providing visual and playing interest. These features demand accuracy and course management, making it an engaging test even for seasoned golfers. At the same time, the course accommodates newcomers by offering three sets of tees that scale in difficulty and length, ensuring that less experienced players can enjoy the game without feeling overwhelmed. The lush Kikuyu grass used on the greens and fairways creates smooth putting surfaces and consistent ball rolls, helping players focus more on their strategy and less on erratic ground conditions. The course's legacy, including being the former site of the Junior World Championship where Tiger Woods once triumphed and the home course of golf icon Sam Snead’s record, adds a historic charm and pride that lifts the golf experience. This blend of tradition, challenge, and accessibility makes it memorable whether for casual rounds or competitive play.
