We took the kids to see The Sound of Music and had an absolutely wonderful time! The cast was incredibly talented, the set was beautiful, and the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming for families. The kids were completely engaged (and singing on the way home!). It was the perfect introduction to live theater for them. Highly recommend for a fun, meaningful family outing!

As a Berkeley resident, I couldn't be prouder of this playhouse! I went to see Prom last week, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. This was my third musical at Berkeley Playhouse, and each time I’ve gone with different people who were all equally amazed by the quality of the performances. The staff were friendly and always eager to assist. I’m definitely coming back for Jesus Christ Superstar and The Sound of Music next year. I hope they continue to keep the ticket prices as affordable as they’ve been!

I have been now to 4 plays/musicals here and I am always amazed at the performers, scenes, backdrops, lighting, and performances. They are spectacular and if you like theater this place is a hidden gem that should be screamed at the top of the mountain. Very highly recommended. Love everything about the place. Recommend dropping loved ones that have difficulty walking at the entrance and finding parking in the neighborhood. Bring a jacket as it seems to always be chilly inside. Love, love, love this place and will keep coming to their musicals as long as I’m alive! 😘😘😘 We have seen - Family House - Urinetown - Hortons there’s a Who! - ??? “Can’t remember the other name”

I went to a few musicals here before I purchased 24/25 season ticket. I've always had good experiences here and had good views towards the stage. The location is next to public transportation. I can easily take Bart and transfer here by bus.

What a fabulous theater! Built by the famous architect Julia Morgan about 100 years ago, it still stands in stately elegance with all of its aged redwood. Offers some fine musical theater, presently a passionate production of Jesus Christ Superstar! Must see! Singing & dancing are truly phenomenal; staging is impressive in its movement from scene to scene. Theater is nestled in Berkeley College Ave neighborhood, street parking is always available as are some fine restaurants right nearby to enjoy before or after the show. The theater also sells very reasonable refreshments. If you have not been to this gem of a theater, you're missing out of visiting a local treasure but also of meeting some of the beloved community who keep the fires burning here!
