Stopped in for the drive in movie experience with my girl. Was old school and modern at the same time. Great feel, was outdoors but intimate at the same time. People working were fantastic. Screens were done nicely and light pollution was not a factor. Used FM radio for the sound, but some screens had an old school window speaker. We watched from the hatch, with extra pillows and blankets. Make your experience as fun as you want. We wore our PJs. I highly recommend this place, come out for a cool experience if you’ve never done so before.

This little gem just on the fringe of Austin is such a cool & eclectic experience! My darling family of 4 loaded up our SUV with blankets, chairs, small picnic table, fresh pressure cooked pulled pork & slaw and headed out for the evening to see some fantastic movies in a double feature. We were greeted warmly by the owner as he checked our reservation & guided us to a perfect spot under large oak trees where we could park it for the evening with the gate lifted. Everything was set up within a few min and our kids were off bounding through the expansive green yard to play toss games, frisbee & meet other kids their age. We set up the back of the car like a bed and my husband and I enjoyed date night on the chairs drinking good margaritas! (It's BYOB, so be reasonable with behavior or they'll kick you out) We served up dinner, shared with some neighbors, visited concessions where we grabbed popcorn, Harry Potter chocolate frogs & some wizardly jelly beans! The kids fell asleep in the car after the first movie giving us a great second movie date night. The facilities were spectacularly clean, the staff friendly & helpful and everything was coming up roses all evening! BEST FAMILY DATE NIGHT EVER!

I’ve lived in Austin for 12 years, but this was my first visit to the starlite. We arrived early and nabbed the best spot and setup with our hatch open. Was such a fun and unique very austin experience.

Amazing experience. Went to see The Outsiders, what a great night! Aside from watching a fine movie at a great location, they also offer a open fire for toasting s'mores and a licensed bar with a good selection of beers.

Great little drive in! The only issue we had is when we went to see Gold Finger, the movie has issues for a good 20 minutes. With about 2 cars there to watch, they didn't let us know what was going on or how quickly they were trying to get it resolved for us.

Why is Blue Starlite perfect for a group meetup or family gathering?

Blue Starlite’s small-scale and intimate urban drive-in design makes it especially suitable for group meetups and family outings. Unlike large multiplex cinemas, Blue Starlite restricts attendance to a limited number of cars per showing—usually between 30 and 50—ensuring it never feels overcrowded and that groups can comfortably park together or close by. The ability to tailgate right at your spot means families and friends can set up a small gathering area outside their vehicles, perfect for chatting or eating together before and after the movie. This flexibility accommodates all kinds of group dynamics, from families with small children to groups of friends looking for a relaxed night out. The curated movie selection caters to various age groups and interests, ranging from family-friendly films to indie and cult favorites, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Moreover, the outdoor setting offers a safer, open-air environment, which is especially appealing for those prioritizing health and social distancing. The drive-in’s intimate scale combined with the classic car-screening arrangement fosters a sense of shared experience, making group meetups memorable and special.

How does the drive-in experience at Blue Starlite compare to traditional movie theaters?

The use of FM radio transmission for audio maintains sound quality personalized to each vehicle, helping avoid some noise issues common to indoor theaters. Furthermore, Blue Starlite’s selection of independent films, comedies, cult classics, and family features often differs from mainstream movie theaters, giving audiences a unique cinema experience that often includes beloved films not typically found in regular theaters. Moreover, with its limited capacity and urban location, it attracts a close-knit community of movie lovers seeking both entertainment and shared social interaction, making each visit feel special and distinct from the generic movie-going routine.
