Brier Summit Open Space Preserve earns its name the honest way—stray off the trail and you’ll quickly understand why. But stay on the paved path (which winds steadily up to the summit) or veer onto the better-worn dirt trails, and you’ll be rewarded with some of the most spectacular panoramic views in the region. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure kind of place: smooth, stroller- and bike-friendly walkways if you’re keeping it chill, or rugged, thorn-brushed trails for those chasing elevation and solitude. Be careful to keep your dogs on leashes because we crossed paths w a small pack of coyotes, common in this area. At the top, you’re treated to a full sweep of the surrounding hills—rolling and raw, especially striking around golden hour. The only detraction is the small forest of radio towers breaking up the skyline at the summit, but if you’re facing the other direction (or cropping your photos creatively), it’s still magic. Bring water, and maybe long pants if you plan on exploring beyond the obvious paths—this preserve doesn’t hide the wild. It lets it poke you a little. A true local gem for walkers, runners, and quiet explorers who don’t mind a few scratches in exchange for the view. Five stars.

The Briar Summit Trail is one of those secret gems that feels far removed from the LA hustle. The trail itself is moderate in difficulty, with great city views from the top. It’s shaded in some spots, making it perfect for a morning hike. I saw only a handful of hikers during my visit—definitely more peaceful than the popular trails like Runyon Canyon. Worth the drive for a quiet hike with an awesome view of the city.

Nice views, no public amenities from what we could see and the hiking trials aren't really defined. There's a burned out car but you've got to be adventurous to find it.

Nice view and only 4 or 5 miles from Studio City, so if you live in Studio City, check out the view of Hollywood, south of Hollywood, the Griffith Observatory, and probably a thick layer of smog. It's a super quick hike from the street parking if you don't need a nice long hike. There are some nice sittin' stones and a log on the flat overlook. There are also some nice slanted vein patterns along the exposed edge of the Santa Monica mountains. It is very soft and brittle. It looks like several layers of ash from brush fire after brush fire over so many years.
