Really cool place to stay near the beach, good surf vibes and right next to the fish taco place (only eat fish tacos if you stay here). The boss is real cool guy and helped me out with parking my motorcycle. Staff is real chill and friendly too, especially Federico who can serve as your local guide. Cora is cool too. I’d mention the others but I forgotten all their names. I had a real good stay here during my last days in San Diego.

Stumbled upon this place online and fell in love with the location! Right next to Pacific beach and in the heart of some great restaurants/bars. Met some amazing guests who were coming from different parts of the world. The staff was super friendly! Federico was super helpful and friendly gave me some great recommendations on places I should check out during my 3 day trip. Clementine was another amazing person who helped me check in a breeze. If you’re looking to save money for the vacation activities instead of balling on a hotel, please check this place out! Perfect for anyone 18-40 who loves to meet people and embrace the destination!

A great, inexpensive and clean hostel that is close to the beach. Downside can be parking sometimes, but if you come find parking at night its usually available. The staff here do an amazing job keeping it clean, tidy and interesting. One of the staff, Fedrico, deserves a lot of credit for this! He will tell you the best spots for sightseeing San Diego!

Great little hole in the wall hostel on the beach! I spent 3 nights for memorial day for a very reasonable price (50/night) with 2 other people. There are only 2 rooms in the hostel, so I imagine they get booked out pretty fast. The volunteers were kind and helpful, but you do get kicked out of the common area at 2 pm your day of checkout, so no waiting around!

Why is California Dreams Hostel perfect for group meetups?
California Dreams Hostel is especially well-suited for group meetups for several key reasons. The hostel’s communal nature, combined with many shared facilities, is designed to encourage social interaction. Dorm rooms with privacy curtains create a balanced experience of personal space alongside group connectivity. Friendly, cheerful staff members are often praised for enhancing the social atmosphere by facilitating introductions and helping guests feel at home.
The hostel’s design means groups can easily gather in common areas like the kitchen, lounge, or outdoor spaces, making coordination smooth and fun. The availability of free amenities such as coffee and breakfast reduces logistical hassles, so groups can focus on spending time together. Additionally, the affordable pricing means groups can extend their stay without breaking the bank, making it accessible for friends or families traveling on a budget.
Location is another crucial factor. Being situated right near the beach means groups can seamlessly alternate between days filled with outdoor adventures and evenings enjoying local dining or entertainment options nearby. Accessibility to public transport and local attractions helps groups explore San Diego without complicated travel planning. Memory-making experiences, like group surfing sessions or beach BBQs facilitated by the hostel, add to the appeal.
How suitable are the rooms for groups?
California Dreams Hostel offers a mix of dormitory-style rooms and private rooms. Dorm rooms are popular among groups who want to share space, fostering a lively and communal experience. Each bed includes a privacy curtain, which adds an element of seclusion within the shared room, balancing social time with personal retreat. Although some guests have noted that rooms can be on the smaller side, the cleaning standards remain high, and overall comfort is satisfactory for budget-conscious travelers.
For guests or groups seeking more privacy, private rooms are available, though they tend to be smaller and slightly removed from the main dorm area. These rooms provide quiet and additional comfort but may not feature the same level of shared social interaction. Despite some reports of thin walls in private rooms, they offer a cozy retreat for those who need a break from the group setting.
Small groups can easily reserve multiple dorm beds or a combination of private and dorm accommodations to suit everyone’s preferences. This flexibility allows groups to tailor their lodging to their social dynamic and comfort needs while staying together on the same property.

California Dreams Hostel is equipped with amenities that enhance the convenience and enjoyment of group stays. Free coffee available throughout the day encourages social mingling in the common areas. The provision of free surfboards directly on-site is a standout perk, enabling spontaneous group surfing sessions on the nearby beach.
The hostel also features a well-maintained pool and hot tub area where friends and families can gather to relax and socialize outside their rooms. Groups can explore local street art, farmers markets, and vintage stores, enriching their social outings beyond the hostel. Popular nearby natural sites like Sunset Cliffs offer breathtaking views at sunset, perfect for group photo ops and relaxed hikes together.
