Absolutely pathetic. If there was an option for zero stars, this place would deserve it without question. First, let’s talk about the parking scam they’re running here. $12 for 2 hours? Seriously? When I asked why, the first security guard confidently told me: “Just pay now, the gym will refund you later.” Biggest lie of the day. I went down to the gym, thinking this would get resolved. Nope. “Parking? Not our department. Not our responsibility.” They couldn’t care less. When I tried again, they pushed me off to another guard… and let me tell you, she acted like I personally ruined her day just by asking a simple question. Completely rude, raised her voice at me, with an attitude like “Don’t bother me with your problems.” And the gym itself? A total joke. Machines broken. Dirty floors. Foul smell. Zero maintenance. It felt like a forgotten storage room, not a place people pay to work out. Honestly, the only workout I got was from walking in circles trying to find someone with a basic sense of customer service—which, spoiler alert: none of them had. If you enjoy wasting your money, being lied to, and treated like trash—then by all means, come here. Otherwise, RUN. Never again.

One of the worst gym experiences I’ve ever had. Be very careful before signing up. I chose City Sports Berkeley only because it was close to my job, but within my first week I had multiple unacceptable issues: Unsanitary and disturbing: In the women's locker room/showers, there was a girl with a dog—and it was definitely not a service animal. She literally came out of the shower with the dog. That is beyond gross and completely unhygienic. How are people supposed to feel clean and safe using the facilities after that? Parking scam: They advertise two hours of free parking with validation, but the system didn’t work—twice. I ended up having to pay out of pocket, and when I asked for help, the staff was rude and dismissive. Unclear rules and poor communication: One of the trainers screamed at me for trying to work out in the “trainers only” section. I was never told this area was off-limits when I signed up. So unless you're paying extra for a trainer, you're basically limited to using just the machines. No towel service—even for pool use: You have to bring everything with you if you want to use the pool, including multiple towels. If you’re going to the gym before or after work, this makes it incredibly inconvenient—you’re forced to carry several bags. Most gyms offer basic amenities like towels. This one doesn’t. Terrible customer service and refund policy: I committed and paid almost $600 upfront for a full-year membership, but before the first month even ended, I knew it was a mistake. I spoke with the manager, Lili, and she offered zero solutions. Not even a partial refund. They’ve basically stolen my money. There are so many better gyms out there with clearer rules, cleaner facilities, and much better customer service. I regret joining City Sports Berkeley and strongly recommend you look elsewhere.

I've been coming for three years. It is a nice enough gym for the price but recently I've considered switching gyms pros: bright space, kind staff, squat racks and basic necessity for the gym cons: Hot tub broken often and parking has gotten annoying. They are so rude to you if you misplace your ticket. Originally the space had free parking so them changing to only offer two hour parking and somewhat rude staff is a real turn off for me. Also there is no sauna unlike hayward. Also no turf area and other equipment found at hayward city sports. In general it could be better a I hope this review will offer some insights. Update: just got stuck after my validation didn't work and had to pay even after validating ...waited 30 minutes for the help button, security couldn't help. I wouldn't park at the rooftop parking. The parking company should be ashamed and I will be demanding a refund.

I had just ended my membership at Planet Fitness and wanted to try something new. So I decided to give City Club Sports a try. I've driven past this particular club many times and have always wanted to see the space. There is a wide variety of equipment to choose from. They have free weights and machines that can be utilized to meet your fitness needs. Lots of space, a pool, hot tub in locker rooms and parking is validated for 2 hours. I'm giving this gym 4 stars for two reasons. The first one is that some of the staff working here aren't very friendly. They won't even look your way and greet you, or say hi. Most gyms I go into the staff are thrilled to at least have some sort of human interaction with the members. The other reason is because, they don't have a pull up bar section that allows you to go up and over the bars for the muscle up workout (which is something I do often in my routines). Other than that, the gym is solid and I'm happy to have gotten my membership here. Looking forward to trying out other clubs in the Bay Area.

I signed up for a 3-month membership and was told I had to pay the first and last months up front, with the middle month billed later. That was fine—as long as I canceled before the final billing cycle. I went to the gym several times to cancel, but was always told only the manager could do it, and the manager was never there. No one mentioned I could cancel online—something I only found out much later on my own. On my final visit, a front desk employee told me she could cancel it herself. I trusted her, but I was later charged for another month. When I asked why, they said they didn’t know, and I discovered my account was still active. I finally spoke to the manager, who said there was no record of cancellation. To get a refund, I’d have to give up the last month I had already paid for. Even after I showed her that I had taken steps to cancel on time, she dismissed it and said it was my word against theirs. The best they could offer was a partial refund. The manager never made an effort to help. I was met with defensiveness, not solutions. It felt like they were more focused on squeezing out another payment than treating customers fairly. Disappointing experience.
