Absolutely breathtaking, foot spikes are good for the end but not a necessity. The people on the trail are generally more friendly than on many of the trails around here, but definitely one of the more difficult hikes I've done so far! At the top it can be a little chilly so a small jacket is great to have handy.

Took this to bear peak. Wow, incredible. I am in decent shape, but from WI so not used to the altitude and it was pretty difficult, but well worth it. Outstanding views from incredible heights. Took my wife, daughter and I about 5 hours total with a lot of short rests and some time at the top. If you're up for it, highly recommend. Bring lots of water if going in summer.

Shanahan Ridge is a fun hike, and going in off Cragmoor starts the hike off with a nice climb up a long flight of steps for an extra amount of work.

Nice, quiet neighborhood with streetside parking for about 10 cars. No bathrooms. Within the Boulder parks fee area. The trail here reminds me of a mini-Manitou Incline, hosting a good stretch of stairs to where it meets the Shanahan Ridge loop. There's also connection from this TH to several other trails around NCAR.
