If you want to learn to dance, this is the place to go. Rebecca and the instructors are incredible at teaching all aspects of dancing, from the steps, to finding the beat, to leading, and to following. Before taking lessons here, I was convinced that I'd never learn to dance, I'd tried previously many times without success, but after only a few lessons, I can actually dance now and have so much more confidence in my ability to learn new steps and styles. It has also been an incredibly fun process and way to spend time with my fiance, and it has helped us grow our relationship and communication skills in ways I had not expected. One of my friends who got married last year referred me to Dancing Together as my now husband and I didn’t want to look like total fools on the dance floor at our wedding for our first dance. We signed up for 12 lessons as we made it a point to start learning 6 months out from our wedding, but Dancing Together also offers an introductory rate for your first lesson if that’s all you have time or inclination for. The appeal was that the lessons are private and take place in their studio in Pacific Beach, so we didn’t have to worry about stumbling around in front of others. While I’d taken dance for PE once upon a time in high school, my husband is not a dancer at all, so this was a stretch for us, but we were immediately put at ease at our first lesson with Miki. She is so kind, friendly, and most importantly, patient. Lesson by lesson, she put together a routine for us that was within our abilities but also managed to impress our friends and family the day of the wedding–and I’d say we looked good doing it too! We also carved out a handful of lessons to learn a sisters-brother dance for my husband and my father-daughter dance with my dad, and it was fun to learn different dances. Miki, thank you so much for your help. Dancing Together also offers group classes once a month at their dance hall near USD where they focus on 1-2 styles of dance. We were lucky enough to debut our dance a few days before the wedding at one of these group classes, and it helped with our nerves the actual day of the wedding. Everyone in the class was very supportive and it was also fun to take our minds off the wedding for a bit and try different dance styles. We hope to go back in the future for other group classes!
