This was my first time at Don’t Tell Mama Piano Bar, and it was a great experience! It’s not about the food, but the atmosphere. From the moment I walked in, the staff and bartenders performed—singing while they worked and interacting with a talented pianist. I really enjoyed the time 👏👌👍

Iconic cabaret spot in the city! Loved the decor and vibe. Cash only with a two drink minimum for shows. The back room is pretty cramped, but it’s cozy and intimate.

We came to see the private show, which we had previously purchased tickets for, but arrived a little early & had some Happy Hour Cosmos, charcuterie board & guacamole. Went into the area for the private show & were told there was a w drink minimum & it was cash only. Only reason there are 4 stars is because was not aware it was cash only & was a little awkward scraping all the cash we had together to pay the tab. Otherwise, highly recommend.

There are a very few circumstances in which I would suggest putting ice in a pinot grigio. Prominent among them is when you're celebrating the very ill mother of a dear friend, and mom's favorite drink was that, and mom's favorite bar was this. Whatever the wine choice, it's not hard to see why she loves Don't Tell Mama: a raucous good time with great musicians having fun. Cheers, and get better. Can you give bar food five stars? Fries. And cheesecake.

What a fantastic night out. Started with dinner on patio at Kitchen 46 (great price, taste & portions) before moving to the intimate piano bar. Great night throughout the night especially Laura making cocktails & blasting out the diva songs, accompanied ably by Jerry on piano who is a great performer on his own as well. The bar was full from 9-11.30 with people coming & going but constant was great entertainment & service. Other singers who are also bar/wait staff were also very good. Get there!

How does Don't Tell Mama compare to other nightlife options for hosting meetups with friends?

When compared to other nightlife venues in New York City, Don't Tell Mama stands out largely because of its unique focus on live piano bar and cabaret entertainment combined with its multi-space format. Other clubs or lounges may prioritize DJ-driven music or dancing, which caters more to party vibes but less to conversation and shared group experiences. Likewise, traditional restaurants with live music often separate dining from the entertainment, while Don't Tell Mama integrates them fluidly. This makes it especially attractive for groups that want a full evening under one roof—dining, drinking, listening, and performing. The venue’s longevity and consistent positive reviews also lend credibility to its quality and appeal, providing reassurance that your group’s night will be filled with genuine New York charm, excellent service, and spirited fun distinct from more generic nightlife options.
