Must experience when in New York. I found the activity by chance but it is a very cool thing and the vicinity is also beautiful. We visited pier 26 three times during our 6day visit of NY. Thanks to the volunteers who make this possible!

Fantastic free experience in the city - the volunteers are all so helpful and kind (many are Spanish-speakers as well), and it's a cool view of lower Manhattan (primarily you're looking at the WTC) but mostly the NJ skyline, which doesn't get enough credit, especially with the sun setting through the buildings. I got there on a Thursday around 6pm and waited about half an hour in line, but once you get to the front of the line to sign the waiver, it's a quick process to get your life vest and paddle (and stash your stuff in a free locker they give you the key for, which is pretty secure by virtue of it being in view of everyone) and get in a boat, since they have a lot. They also have free sunscreen if you forgot yours in a big dispenser. Use the bathrooms at Pier 25 before you get in line if you need to. Also it's best to bring swim trunks or shorts you don't mind getting wet, and leave your shoes and socks in the locker. They don't call people in every 20 minutes (the time you're limited to on the water, although there isn't strict enforcement), so bring a watch or phone (but in a waterproof bag unless you don't care if you drop it and it's gone). People did show up at 6:30/6:45 to wait in line and then find it was booked for the rest of the day and were upset, so beware getting there after 6:30. Also - the RED buoys mark the area you're allowed in - they have someone in a green kayak out there yelling at people who cross the line, so be respectful - they're trying to keep everyone safe.

This place is a hidden gem! Visited on June 8, 2024. My daughter and I had a blast with the double seater kayaking experience. She is 7 years old and sat in the front seat. The staff was the best. It can get a bit crowded during the weekend so be sure to come a bit earlier. Check the schedules on their website listed. You get 20 minutes in the water, a paddle and life jacket. I made our full video experience on YouTube and my handle is @wilching. Take a look and if you like it 🙏 please like 👍 and subscribe🔔so I can continue to bring more great content 😊
