The Fine Arts Building is a hidden piece of history in the heart of Chicago. Even though most of the studios were closed during my visit, just walking through the building was an experience. It has a charming, vintage feel-like stepping back in time. The manually operated elevator with an attendant is such a cool throwback you don't see anymore. ABSOLUTELY recommend visiting here. As long as you are polite and unobtrusive, the people here are extremely welcoming and willing to share about their crafts. Everything from puppetry to intricate glass paperweights to violin repair and making to historical exhibits. The glass paperweights are especially exceptional, just make sure to please be polite and ask for permission before taking photos. Remember that the people here are working and are sharing with you purely for the love of their craft.
