This is the right tour to choose! First Lady Architecture tour is amazing on a bright sunny summer day. I’m sure it is OK other times too, however this summer and now is the best time to be there! Our knowledgeable tour guide/docent/volunteer Dave was really amazing. His story for full 90 min kept us engaged and entertained! That’s not easy on any given occasion, and Dave delivered that with the ease, talking 90 min straight! History is fascinating, and there is so much to see and hear here. Many stories about different eras of the city’s development and hard moments, paint the picture on the basis of the backdrop which is already an art piece. Very highly recommended!

We very much enjoyed this 90 minute tour. It was better than a tour that I took several years ago with a different company. This particular one is the only nonprofit tour on the river. It’s run by the Chicago Architecture Center and is narrated by volunteer docents. No tips are accepted. So pleased to support this group that appreciates and advocates for preservation of Chicago’s architectural treasures!

We had a great time on the little lady! Doug was an incredible tour guide and super friendly. During the dead moments, he would tell us more about any questions that we had. It was a beautiful day on the water and a perfect timed tour. An hour and a half is great. Learned so much about Chicago along the way. Jay was the bartender and he was great! Super friendly and an awesome guy. Plenty of drinks available!

For my first real visit to Chicago, my friends booked a couple tours, one of them being the city and architecture tour on the First Lady. Signing up for the tour was pretty easy online and we opted for priority seating, which meant we were some of the first people to board the ship. We were on the smallest of the ships in their fleet, but there weren't a lot of people compared with the other vessels, so that worked out. We were able to board and get seats in the bow of the boat, and then went to have some drinks while listening to the tour guide, Olivia, on the upper deck. We could hear Olivia's informative and humor laced stories from the lower deck and were able to get amazing photos and videos of the city from a pretty unique angle. From it's swashbuckling origins to the curated and cultured skyscrapers, Olivia made the journey very memorable. The boatswain and the bartender were also full of humor and made for a fun and exciting journey. This tour, unlike some of the others, heads out into lake Michigan, allowing you to learn more of the history and various areas of interest from the open water. There is a bit of a splash zone, depending on the weather, which may be more than welcome on those warner days. I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in architecture, history, or just having a fun time in a boat. The staff, information, and views are incredible.

No better way to truly appreciate and enjoy the beauty and legacy of Chicago architecture than hoping on the First Lady of Chicago for an architectural tour along the River A volunteer docent from Chicago Architecture Museum provides an entertaining and informative guided tour along the River. Explaining the history and significance of the various buildings and styles of architecture along the way. The tour includes a journey that takes you on all three legs of the River and out to the locks where the River meets Lake Michigan. Informative and relaxing the boat has snacks and beverages, plenty of seating indoors and out. Of the many river tours, this is our favorite.
