Fred Meyer

Why Fred Meyer is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family
Fred Meyer is a well-established supercenter chain with deep roots dating back to 1922 in Portland, Oregon. Founded by Fred G. Meyer, the company pioneered the concept of a 'one-stop shopping' experience by combining multiple departments such as meat, produce, coffee, and general merchandise under one roof. Today, Fred Meyer operates around 130 stores across the Northwest, offering an extensive range of over 225,000 products that include groceries, apparel, household goods, and jewelry. This variety makes it an attractive destination for groups of friends who want to shop together while exploring diverse selections all in a single location. Many Fred Meyer stores are spacious, often between 130,000 to 200,000 square feet, providing a comfortable and convenient shopping environment for social meetups. The stores also feature a combination of grocery and non-food items, so visitors can quickly grab essentials or browse specialty goods. Fred Meyer’s long-standing history and community presence lend it a nostalgic charm and reliability as a favorite local spot. Its evolution from a small coffee-focused business to a leading supercenter under the Kroger Company umbrella underscores its significance in the region's retail landscape. Whether meeting friends for a casual shopping trip or stocking up for a group event, Fred Meyer’s comprehensive offerings and multiple departments make it an ideal place to connect and shop together.
Here's what people think of Fred Meyer
As of recent, Fred Meyer holds a 4.1-star rating based on 1910 reviews.
Customer reviews of Fred Meyer reveal a mixed but insightful picture of the shopping experience. Many users appreciate the store's ample selection and layout, highlighting the convenience of finding everything from groceries to apparel in one location. Positive feedback often praises the variety of products, the helpfulness of certain employees, and the overall convenience of the store's size and location, which accommodates group shopping well. However, several reviews point out notable issues, particularly regarding customer service. Common negative sentiments include experiences of unhelpful or rude staff, poor management responses, and feelings of not being valued as a customer. Some customers also mention inconsistencies in pricing and quality, especially with produce, which they suggest could be improved. Despite these concerns, the store’s breadth of offerings and accessibility remain strong draws. In conclusion, while Fred Meyer is widely regarded as a convenient and comprehensive supercenter suited for group shopping and casual meetups, it faces challenges in customer service that impact some shoppers’ experiences. Nevertheless, for many, the positives in product range and store layout still make it a popular destination for meeting friends and shopping together.

Very nice staff. I went in to use a voucher I had, and the customer service was amazing! I even love the Family Line, which means people have to be patient. Made my trip so nice!

Title: Disappointing Experience Despite High Expectations As a Google Local Guide and frequent traveler, I always enjoy exploring regional grocery stores and sharing my experiences with the community. On a recent trip from Texas to Seattle, I researched the best grocery options in the area and Fred Meyer consistently came up as a top recommendation. With that in mind, I made a special effort to visit the Fred Meyer location on June 6, 2025, around 5:00 PM, eager to explore their offerings and write a helpful review for others. Upon arrival, I was initially impressed by the store’s size and variety, particularly in the produce section, which appeared fresh and well-stocked. As part of my normal reviewing process, I began taking a few discreet photos of the produce displays to accompany my review. However, my experience quickly took a turn for the worse. While photographing, a white male security guard approached me and instructed me—rather curtly—to stop taking photos, stating that photography is not allowed inside the store. His tone was unnecessarily stern, and his facial expression felt dismissive and unwelcoming. The encounter was both surprising and disheartening, especially since my intent was simply to provide a fair and informative review for other customers. After leaving the store, I reviewed Fred Meyer’s terms and general policy and found no clear indication that personal photography for review purposes is prohibited—especially when done respectfully and without disrupting other customers or staff. As a consumer and content contributor, I felt disappointed and, frankly, disrespected by the interaction. I can’t help but wonder if my appearance played a role in the guard’s behavior. As an Asian visitor, it’s hard not to question whether bias—conscious or not—may have influenced the way I was treated. I sincerely hope that was not the case, but the experience left me feeling unwelcome and excluded. Regrettably, the interaction ruined what could have been a pleasant shopping visit. I chose not to make any purchases and instead left the store feeling frustrated and deeply disappointed. I had genuinely looked forward to highlighting Fred Meyer’s variety and value to others traveling through the Seattle area, but I cannot in good conscience recommend this location based on how I was treated. While I acknowledge that Fred Meyer likely has quality products and a loyal customer base, customer experience is just as important as product selection. I hope store management takes feedback like this seriously and reviews staff conduct to ensure that all guests—regardless of background—feel respected and welcome. For that reason, I am leaving a one-star review. I believe in honest feedback and hope this helps improve the experience for future customers.

Fred Meyer is a grocery store chain mostly on the western side of the US. This location is close to the water between Fremont and Ballard, and can be tough to get to with traffic and construction. Parking is simple here as they have a massive lot. They have a home section with furniture, clothes and electronics as well as the grocery side with everything you can think of. It's relatively clean inside and they're good at keeping the shelves stocked. Prices here are normal with other local grocery stores and doesn't get too busy since they have dozens of checkout stands.

Good grocery store, overall clean supermarket. There is a wide selection of food and drink items, comparable to your local Walmart and Target. Fred Meyer chain supermarkets are notably very large, and contain a wide selection of items for your purchase. There are also a few home good selections such as furniture and decor. This location also has a garden center for plants and flowers.

Y’all need to get your coupon system figured out. I go in there for a couple of racks to throw on the barbecue, with a coupon for $2.99 a pound plus buy one get one free. No surprise that I didn’t get the price per pound coupon discounted. And for the second time this week, I had to go up to the customer service counter, where only a single person is working, who also has a line that’s bigger than self-checkouts, whom I may add, didn’t seem to know what they were doing. Seriously, its a nice place to shop, but what the hell?
