Great Hills Park might be the best hidden getaway trail in Northeast Austin. The trail begins at a park that features a number of activities from a sand pit to workout equipment to playgrounds. The trail itself is not difficult, only spanning a mile or so if that but there is a lot packed into that mile, especially as there are many branches of pathways. From winding slopes to running streams and rocky alcoves, you get a little bit of everything on this trail. Throughout our entire walk through there was hardly anyone on the trail which gave it a sense of peace and serenity that can sometimes be very hard to find on Austin trails. The only qualms we have about this trail are that there are no garbage cans anywhere, and as litter conscious people we had to wait quite some time to get rid of our trash since only one end of the trail has a waste bin. The other issue is that is is incredibly rocky, and not large rocks that take time to hurdle and climb over, but small loose rocks that always have you feeling unsure of yourself, even on flat ground. Both are very minor issues to have but important to note nonetheless. Ultimately, Great Hills is a lovely trail that is convenient and quiet allowing for a solace filled escape. We recommend it to anyone living in the area.

Came here not expecting a whole lot but I ended up having a great time with my dog! Much to explore, there’s graffiti tunnels and crawfish in the creeks! I also found a snapping turtle in the part of the creek that was drying up and tried relocating it but unfortunately it kept trying to bite my hand off😢

Lovely hiking trails with occasional views of the creek. Large playground and climbing structure for kids. Group picnic shelter. Fitness equipment for adults. Great trail for walking dogs, but not for moms with strollers. This trail would be too challenging for small children due to the many stairs, rocks, and tree roots along the path.

This is a great nature trail in North Austin. It's not crowded, not too challenging to bring kids on (I wouldn't try a stroller on this trail, though; it has some stairs and is otherwise too rough for even a jogging stroller to be practical) and you can hike from the Floral Park Dr trailhead to the playground to give your hike a destination that kids will be excited about.

Pretty trails with creek/water, it is early August and there is still water flowing through this creek. Neat rock formations. Parking is on the street. Please, no leaving doggy bags laying on the ground....it is unsightly & unsanitary. Keep the parks pretty, & clean, for ourselves & our wildlife friends. There are open, full sun areas & plenty of shady trails also. Home to bat houses!
