Located in downtown SLC is this absolute gem of a yarn shop. Knit, crochet, weave, spin, embroider, felt? They got you! Recently went in with a (big &) tall order: cardigan quantity yarn! Whitney, store owner and knitter extraordinaire, to the rescue. We discussed options in various price points from very affordable to high end luxe. Ended up going for something in the middle: Brooklyn Tweed Shelter. Lovely, lofty yarn that will last many years with proper care. Handwork also has a space where makers can just hang out and create. And they even have a dedicated Maker Night! Sat at the table after my purchase and knit for a bit. I also left with another sweater quantity’s worth of yarn. ☺️

This shop has become a cornerstone of the SLC knitting community!! I am so inspired by Whitney and her vision for this shop and her customers. This shop has turned into one of my favorite places to find inspiration, learn something new and meet amazing people. The KAL this spring was such a joy!! So glad I went with the yarn recommendations suggested by Whitney. ❤️

I'm new to knitting, and new to the fiber arts scene, but Handwork has become one of my favorite destinations in the city! I can't say enough wonderful things about this store, but I'm gonna try! First, it's so much more than a "store," it's a community, for sure, but it feels like a family in the very best way. There is a big table in the middle of the store where there are always delicious snacks and knitters working away on beautiful projects. I've learned a ton in such a short time just from hanging out and chatting with the many talented fiber artists who frequent the shop. But even more, from the warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, attentive owner and staff of the store. I've never been in when it wasn't busy and I've often marveled at the capacity that the owner and staff have for taking time with each person and providing individual attention and assistance. They have gone above and beyond helping a newbie like me pick out the perfect combinations of yarn, measure me for patterns, calculate how much material I need for a project, they have even helped me on numerous occasions to unravel mixed up stitches and fix mistakes. The range of this big knitting family is expansive and everyone warmly welcomed and cared for. In a store so formidably beautiful, I initially hesitated to bring my small child but she was instantly adored by the owner and immediately employed as the store helper and given tasks that made her feel busy and important. Needless to say, I am not the only person in my house who frequently suggests a trip to the yarn store! I could go on and on but I will just say one more thing: Handwork has created a space in this city where I have found a family of artists, crafters, and teachers who have enriched my life.

The most AMAZING knitting store! I have been to many knitting stores in many places and Handwork is the best. Not only is Whitney friendly and beyond helpful and knowledgable but so is everyone that works there. I know I can rely on any of them to help me find whatever I may need or with any questions I may have(and I always have questions). The store is beautiful with gorgeous yarns and projects. I especially love the great energy is the store - I want to just sit down and enjoy. I love this store and can not recommend it enough.
