Fantastic night! We cooked a delicious French meal with Chef Al and learned essential techniques along the way that we can apply to any cuisine! So many other interesting students there too. What a great way to spend a night. Truly felt like we were traveling the world and living life to the fullest! BYOB :D

I recently took the six-week Culinary Boot Camp for Beginner Cooks at Home Cooking New York and couldn’t recommend it more. With just ten people in the class, we got plenty of personal attention from Chef John, who made learning approachable, fun, and informative. Each class focused on a different topic — from chicken to pasta — and we not only learned essential techniques but also enjoyed a (very) full meal after. Chef John welcomed all our questions and made the kitchen feel way less intimidating. A fantastic experience that's absolutely worth the time and investment! (My few photos — ricotta gnocchi with pesto, pappardelle with meat sauce, beef bourguignon with mashed potatoes, and pan-roasted chicken — do not do it justice.)

I took Bootcamp I and II (both 4 week classes, once a week) and had Chef John for Bootcamp I and Chef Erica for Bootcamp II. Both bootcamps were AMAZING! I highly recommend this class to anyone who has the slightest interest in cooking. Will definitely consider booking another class through Home Cooking New York. Edit 8/21/2025: I have since taken 2 virtual cooking classes with Netanya (Ramen & Persian). I also did the Korean cooking class with John. We made Kimchi Mandu, Doenjang Jjigae, Japchae and kimchi fried rice and left with leftovers!

John Scoff's Indian cooking class was amazing! We made three complete dishes, as well as homemade naan bread, paneer and a chutney. We participated in all of the steps of the process, and John walked us through lots of tips and tricks and skills necessary for successful Indian cuisine. The class was well organized, and the group dinner at the end was both fun and delicious! I can't recommend Home Cooking NY and John's classes highly enough!

Learned a lot, had fun, and enjoyed delicious food! My wife and I attended Thai Food cooking class at HCNY on Jan 25, 2024. The group was small, just 6 people, so we got almost a private class. Entire class was well planned and organized. Each of us got some hands-on stuff to do, we asked questions, took notes, enjoyed our meal, yet we ran exactly on time. John provided a lot of information not just on specific dishes we cooked, but also on Thai cuisine fundamentals, ingredients, and main tastes. He also shared some cool cooking tips we found useful though we are not cooking beginners. We ended up with a plentiful freshly made Thai dinner consisting of Tom Yum soup with Shrimp, Fried Fish in Tamarind sauce, Thai Red Curry Chicken, and sticky rice. All the dishes came out delicious and tasted like in a Thai restaurant! And most important we've successfully reproduced these dishes at home one week later! Thank you John, and The HCNY Crew for the great experience! We highly recommend Home Cooking NY to all who likes and learns to cook!
