Nice hotel with amazing pool lounge and area. Close to downtown so we walked over for dinner. Rooms were small for a family of 4 (2 young kids) but very affordable. Kid friendly hotel but not so off grounds. Next to park so there are some homeless folks hanging out towards sunset. Overall I would go back with the family.

Paradox was exactly what we were searching for in Santa Cruz: clean, modern accommodations, nice common areas, good (heated) pool with food and drink service, good service, and good location. While not located by the beach, there are few good hotel options near the beach that have nice pools. And this location is just short walk across a pedestrian bridge over the river into downtown with its shops, restaurants, and movie theaters. The rooms were small, but clean and functional, and we didn't plan to spend much time in the rooms anyway. Finally, the staff were all super nice, friendly, and helpful. We will definitely be back.

Not a 4 star hotel. They’re striving for that boutique hotel but fall short on that experience. The check in was friendly and easy, lobby was beautiful, food options were fair bar food. The rooms were tiny, the worst bed I’ve ever had at a hotel, literally “V” shaped with a giant dip. Only two towels provided, very basic bathroom which was also tiny. The pool gate slammed incessantly until 10pm so if you’re anywhere near the pool….beware. Landscaping started around 0730 and leaf blowing at our door was shortly after that, not a relaxing environment and not worth the price. The surrounding area felt unsafe, we walked to dinner the first night and were met with homeless and needles and drug using as soon as we left the property. The additional $30 a night to park just adds another sting to the experience, I feel like at this price point they could just roll that into the cost of the room per night. I couldn’t recommend this hotel.

Everything looks nice, clean, rooms look nice. Walls somewhat thin, can hear the neighbors. Pool is nice, but the jacuzzi has no jets and no bubbles, it’s just flat. Good water temperature both in the pool and the jacuzzi. No bubbles is disappointing.

Not value for money; definitely not even close to the 4 star experience they try to project. It felt like a glorified motel outside of the (very pleasant) lobby/pool area. Rooms and other common areas are very outdated and in need of maintenance. Peeling wallpaper, patched holes in the walls, scrapes on the floor, and overall just dingy. While the beds were comfortable, the sheets were not clean, and had stains and holes. Housekeeping was late, somewhat hostile when we asked to be let in to our rooms, and never did a good job - floors and surfaces weren’t cleaned properly once during our week long stay. Ceiling in the bathroom was stained, cracking/peeling and had hairs all over it. Visible mold around the shower and toilet. Toilet leaked on and off and gurgled the whole week - and the sound of the toilet flushing was so loud and crazy we nicknamed it the Toilet of Doom. Could hear the incredibly loud flush from the room behind too. Could also hear people in the room above constantly (maybe the wooden floors aren’t a great idea?). Bar service was rude and slow when we tried to get a drink one afternoon, and so we never went back. Food at the restaurant is just OK, and fairly expensive. Check out was soured due to the front desk telling me they’d put a pending charge on our room halfway through our stay due to our “many lounge charges to the room” which amounted to…1. No apology or real explanation was forthcoming, and I look forward to resolving this with our credit card company. Felt sketchy, and inhospitable. Positives: some of the staff at the front desk, who were mostly friendly and very responsive; the location is great; lobby and pool area are clean and fun, with lots of seating and games. We wouldn’t stay there again - and I’m a pretty loyal Marriott member, and really enjoy the area. In addition, reading through some of the other reviews of this place, it’s pretty clear that Marriott are using AI to write their responses. Wouldn’t therefore expect anything to change…very disappointing.
