Rude staff and overpriced items (+ considering many are already broken and donated for FREE). They have some good stuff but it’s not worth the price and especially not worth the attitude. Housing Works is already one of the greatest organizations and enterprises to ever grace New York City. From Health Care to Housing, Mental Heath to Substance Abuse & Harm Reduction services, Covid-19 Vaccinations and Boosters, and the great Health Homes program, Charles King and his team of dedicated people at Housing Works have done more for people living with HIV than...well, anyone. Part of their funding mechanisms come from operating Book Stores and Thrift Stores, with the proceeds and profits being redirected into direct client services, like health care and housing. The Housing Works thrift stores have a reputation for having very high end, high quality merchandise at competitive prices (for New York, at least) and the store in The Gramercy section of Manhattan, 157 East 23rd Street to be pricise, is a perfect example. Fantastic place to shop for quality goods, while knowing the proceeds and profits are going to the most worthy of causes. So, 10 Stars! 5 stars for the Organization and 5 more for the store on East 23rd Street.

I Have Two Different Experience First Is Price Are Very high For A Thrift Store In NYC.. Second Experience Is The One Who Made Me Left This Review I Don't Like To Bash Business I Support The Cause. I Purchase Some Gift friday afternoon And 2 Home Decorations Heavy items I Paid Everything. I Ask The Men Cashier Spanish Long Hair, Tall Light Skinned.. If I can pick up the next day early since everything was extremely heavy for me. He say sure the policy holder is 48 hours for pick up. I sing the sold receipt, he storage and attach the proof to the items, i when back today mid day with my mom and some cloth & eye glasses for donation i walk to the donation side on the back i ask with very well manners to the skinny light skin with eye glasses women there. About how is the donation process she look at me with mean face and answer a short answer like if im asking for free stuff or something. I when to try on some jeans. My mom tell me upset lets go home.. i ask why what happened wile im still on the fitting room is next to the donation area. She ask the bad costumer service one how much was some kitchen utensils she do the same bad face at my Mom and answer with actitud. I say to mom is ok don't pay no mind some people just have a bad day lets pay, pick up my stuff from yesterday and lets go. Here is when the problematic behavior of this manager show up. We pay normal with a cashier very sweet, energetic to greet the customers wile the eye glasses skinny one come to the front i give her the donation & ask her for my items on hold i show my receipt. She when look and ce Back first thing she say i never paid for that first Im like im shock im Sorry? I say to her miss Look my receipts, call the guy & check your camera i pay for two decoration items. How you will say that whiteout even look for my receipts & transaction on your computer. Them she look receipts & computer and say ooh that was sold already. Whatttt!! how you will sold something i paid and have been mark sold. She answer the cashier probably dint put the sold tag and he is off today and cant be called on his day off. She was just telling me i will refund the money is nothing we can do im the manager. I just refund you thank you. Extremely unprofessional, with nasty attitude, only repeating about refunds me. i tell her is not about the money i travel here from distance, arange my mom & dog for today trip to the city, i wasted time, i have other stuff to do i cancelled because i have to pick up that & mimd you the train wasn’t working to go back home. I plain terrible bad experience with that supervisor. Yesterday was 3 other workers lovely Today only her was nasty with me and mom rushing me to pay, cold nasty answers, mean face, bad actitud & no effort to help with my item sold by mistake to another person. They have camera & also record of every costumer you have to provide email, phone & address to pay. So if she wants to help she will contact that person and tell them was a mistake purchase & request return back the items to the store or the go and collect my item. Mind you i purchase the item later afternoon yesterday i when back today morning. Very bad shopping experience at this location. I will never go back here.. i donated today, I Like The furniture & decorations items i see here. But this kind of treatment to the costumers is unacceptable. I hope they can address this matter and fix it.
