I visited Jake's Dilemma for my Nephews Graduation/Going away event. The bar was lively when I arrived, The back section was reserved for our group. The catered finger foods that were served were good and the drinks (Open Bar) were even better..😜🥃 I would highly recommend this place for an after work or weekend meeting spot.

I hosted a private in the event oak room and it was fantastic. It’s a great space and the staff was amazing, food was great, and the folks I coordinated with were prompt and on it! Would recommend hosting an event at Jake’s dilemma!

I went last night with my friends looking to have a good time, and instead, we walked out completely disappointed. Yes, the place looks amazing great decor, nice vibe but don’t let that fool you. The service was absolutely disgusting. My friend went up to the bar to order some drinks, and the bartender treated him with a nasty, arrogant attitude. He even had the nerve to ask for money just to change the music. Are you serious? I worked in the service industry for five years, and if there’s one thing I learned, it’s that customer service is everything. That guy shouldn’t even be behind a bar, let alone dealing with people. No matter how “pretty” a place looks, if the staff treats customers like garbage, it’s not worth a single cent. I’ll never come back there!

We (group 4) walked in and were the only people in the bar. They were playing Disney music really loud, we asked to turn it down (as we were the only customers) which the bar maid did…but then sneakily turned it back up again a few minutes later. We ordered 4 draft beers which were only ‘cool’ not ‘cold’ and didn’t taste great either. The wings we ordered were good…that’s the only thing that got these 2 stars. All in all, not a great experience.

What are possible drawbacks or considerations to keep in mind before meeting here?

While Jake’s Dilemma is loved for its lively ambiance and affordability, some have described it as having an atmosphere similar to a fraternity basement, which may not appeal to those seeking a quieter or more refined environment. Some reviews mention occasional flat beer taps and the bar crowd attracting a party-heavy dynamic, which sometimes means noise and crowded sidewalks. The bar does not have a pool table and the restrooms require navigating stairs, which could be a minor inconvenience for some guests. In addition, the outdoor sidewalk can become crowded, and there have been some concerns about obstructive patrons during busy nights, which might affect ease of movement for strollers or groups with children. Nonetheless, many customers find these issues to be minor compared to the overall fun and value, especially if your group enjoys a high-energy, youthful bar experience with great drinks and games.

What makes Jake’s Dilemma stand out compared to other bars in the Upper West Side?

Jake’s Dilemma’s unique blend of cheap drinks, games like foosball and beer pong, and a lively party atmosphere sets it apart from more traditional sports bars or neighborhood pubs on the Upper West Side. Its location is central and easy to reach via several subway lines, a big plus in this busy borough. The affordability on drinks, paired with a solid food menu, appeals to groups looking to save money while having a quality experience. Live music events and the possible plans for open mic nights enhance its reputation as a dynamic social hub rather than just a drinking spot. The bartenders’ personalized service, especially by staff like Wade and Julian, create a community feel that many other bars lack. This combination of factors makes Jake’s Dilemma a destination for those who want an authentic, energetic, and affordable group meetup venue where the focus is on enjoying time together with friends and family.
