What a spectacular dining experience. First and foremost the food was stellar - the menu has a variety of options from the usual to the exploratory (unless you are a frequent Korean cuisine diner). We did the chef's counter and loved it. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly. The tasting menu provided an opportunity to explore a lot of different items from the menu. It's presented in a way you can mix and match as you see fit. The value was impressive as the quality and quantity of food would have easily given another meal. We even got to meet the owner who was super engaging and clearly cares about the entirety of the restaurant, staff, customers, and the food. One of the best experiences ever.

We came to JEJU for a private Chef’s Tasting Menu on June 25, 2025 with RSVP ($75/person, party of 11), and while the service was truly exceptional, the food didn’t match the hype for my personal taste. That said, I want to applaud JEJU’s commitment to whole animal butchery, sustainable sourcing, and zero-waste practices. Their whole animal program is commendable, and it’s no surprise they have a strong support base in Portland. The banchan was underwhelming (radish-heavy kimchi, overcooked egg drop soup, flavorless green beans), though the soft tofu stood out. The pan-fried mandu was chewy but saved by the broth. Kampachi crudo lacked seasoning, and the Ssam meats were tough. Highlight of the night? The JeJu Sundae was easily the best dish. The space is gorgeous with high ceilings, cool plants, and a private room with karaoke (limited song choices). Restrooms need TLC, no seat covers, and the decor feels like an afterthought. Limited lot parking (~12 spaces), but free street and Kitty App parking nearby. All in all: Excellent service, admirable values, but uneven execution on the plate. I’ll give them another shot down the line.

Overall, a lovely establishment. The space is warm and comfortable with an elevated feel. The food was good and well-executed, though the flavors stray quite a bit from traditional Korean cuisine; so be prepared for some surprises if you’re expecting the usual. The service was the one area that felt lacking. The menu isn’t exactly straightforward, and for those unfamiliar with Korean food, a brief intro or some guidance would go a long way. Unfortunately, we didn’t get that by default and had to draw it out of our server. Maybe they were a newer hire 🤷♂️ TL;DR: Great spot overall. Food was tasty but not your typical Korean, and the service could be better, especially for a restaurant of this caliber. Oh! I want to highlight that they were very accommodating to allergies. So if you're gluten free, dairy free, etc, this is a great place for you.

I mean, such a friendly staff, we ordered one plate at a time and had our table for 2 solid hours. Very accommodating and the food was so good. Get everything, cause it’s worth it.

I had high expectations for the meal, but it didn't quite live up to them. The limitations of fusion cuisine were evident, and the overall food management seemed to fall short of the chef's vision. I felt that the dry-aged meat was not cooked to its potential, and while the atmosphere was great, the taste of the food was somewhat disappointing. Some dishes and desserts were excellent. The traditional flavors were appropriately maintained, but the ingredients were altered to suit local tastes, and the cooking methods were changed to preserve texture, which felt a bit off. This is a matter of personal preference, so there is no right answer, but it was a disappointing visit for me. The infrastructure looked great, so it may not always be like this, but I was disappointed with the choice of vegetables and main ingredients presented under the theme of "Samm." Maintaining the flavor of side dishes and adding the chef's skill is the hallmark of traditional cuisine, but I felt the amount of chili powder sprinkled to combine the flavors of kimchi and pickled radish with vinegar was not appropriate. The five-grain rice cooked with butter and in the oven was excellent and represented the true aesthetic of fusion. The price for fine dining was good, but the taste details were lacking, in my opinion. It was disappointing that the preparation was done by the staff without the chef. I don't plan to visit this restaurant again, but I still want to recommend it and suggest ordering à la carte.
