Kangaroo & Kiwi was an awesome stop on our St Patrick's Day Ballard excursion. We actually visited twice in one day - we stopped in early when things were quiet and had a great time with the owner. We swung by later and got to enjoy fun Irish dancing and vibes. Drinks were cold, space massive, and energy fun the entire time. Didn't adore my wings, but they were 75 cents! Would come back for sure.

Stopped in for drinks after dinner with some friends. The building used to be a library and if you look closely, you can see how the layout still looks very library-like. Had a seasonal spiced cinnamon drink that was genuinely so good. Hot rum and cinnamon and other spices. About $10. Prices aren't listed on the menu. Stopped in on a weeknight so it wasn't too busy but still had plenty of patrons. Quick service, pool, and variety of seating. Great for big groups of friends or if you're out to watch sports (they had all types of sports playing on the TVs).

This bar is so great for a sunny day, with a lovely patio - hard to find in Ballard! I really rated the Aussie pie and my friend had the sausage roll, a little bit of a home comfort for us from the UK! Also Brad was awesome at making sure we could get in ok with some mobility assistance needed - it was much appreciated!

the bouncer bumped into my friend while we were celebrating his last night in Seattle and then kicked HIM out of the bar and took him outside to tell him off. Super weird vibe here do not recommend. Get better staff I guess, used to be our fav.

Everything is great about this place except the food. Really friendly and laid back service. Has a little known off leash dog area in the back where you don't have to pay a lot like at dog yard. Location has a lot of space and history as an old Carnegie library. Not too crowded or busy. The food though, ugh. Very greasy and meat centric. A decent hummus plate would go a long way at this place. I'd go back on a day for the beer with my dogs, but plan to get food elsewhere.

What activities can you enjoy at Kangaroo & Kiwi for a group meetup?

Kangaroo & Kiwi offers several activities that make it an excellent choice for groups looking to socialize while having fun. One of the top draws is the drink selection; the bar is known for its wide range of beers, ciders, and traditional cocktails like a Bloody Mary, which are perfect for sampling in a group setting. For those who enjoy games, the venue provides darts and hand shuffleboard, fun low-pressure competitions that can involve everyone regardless of skill level. Watching sports is a key activity here, especially rugby, which is played live on screens around the bar, creating an energetic and communal atmosphere as groups cheer together. The outdoor patio is another great feature, allowing groups to enjoy fresh air and more space during warmer months or sunny days, an increasingly rare find in urban bar settings. While the kitchen serves Australian-inspired items such as pies and toasties, the emphasis here is certainly on drinks and socializing, making it a perfect spot to gather before or after dinner elsewhere or for an afternoon laid-back hangout.

Why is Kangaroo & Kiwi a great place for group socializing and celebrations?

Kangaroo & Kiwi is tailored for groups who want to combine socializing with casual entertainment and a fun cultural twist. The space can accommodate larger groups with its generous seating arrangements inside and out, so whether you’re planning a birthday, catch-up, or casual happy hour, this place has the room and vibe to support it. The Australian and New Zealand theme adds an element of novelty and conversation, providing a backdrop that’s memorable and engaging for those visiting for the first time or returning. The laid-back atmosphere encourages relaxed interactions, without the pressure of formal dining. Friendly bartenders and a social environment that includes games and lively sports broadcasts ensure that groups remain entertained throughout their visit. Furthermore, the outdoor patio space enhances the venue’s flexibility for group events, making it comfortable and inviting regardless of the season. The combination of good drinks, engaging games, cultural theme, and plenty of social space makes Kangaroo & Kiwi a natural choice for memorable group celebrations.

How does Kangaroo & Kiwi compare as a venue for food and drink during gatherings?

While Kangaroo & Kiwi excels as a social and drink-focused venue, its food offerings are more modest and might not be the primary reason to visit with friends. The menu centers around classic Australian pub fare such as meat pies, lamb dishes, and toasties, which provide hearty, comforting options but have received mixed reviews in terms of execution and speed of service. Some diners have found the food average compared to authentic Australian or New Zealand fare elsewhere, and others have experienced long waits during busy times, which could be a consideration for large groups with specific dining expectations. However, the drink selection, particularly the beer and cider variety, is praised and stands out as a key feature to complement social occasions. The casual food options make Kangaroo & Kiwi a suitable place for light bites during a drinks night or before heading to a neighboring restaurant for a more extensive meal, allowing groups flexibility in planning their gatherings.

What makes Kangaroo & Kiwi's atmosphere ideal for casual meetups and post-work hangouts?

The atmosphere at Kangaroo & Kiwi is designed to be approachable and unpretentious, which draws a diverse crowd looking for a casual place to unwind. Its roots as an old library bring character and a cozy feel, enhanced by quirky thematic décor that sparks curiosity and adds warmth. The venue tends to attract a younger, lively crowd, making it a vibrant spot for after-work drinks where you can relax with friends over well-poured beers and ciders. The availability of outdoor seating is a significant plus, offering an open-air environment that’s perfect for chatty groups who want to enjoy the weather without leaving the city. Additionally, the presence of games like darts and shuffleboard lowers social barriers and can make meeting new people or keeping a large party entertained easier. Broadly, the overall tone is energetic yet comfortable, which works well for both casual come-as-you-are meetups and more intentional group plans.

How accessible and convenient is Kangaroo & Kiwi for group meetups in Seattle?

Situated in Seattle, Kangaroo & Kiwi benefits from being in a central location accessible by public transit and car, making it a convenient meetup point for locals and visitors alike. Its location also positions it near other restaurants and attractions, which adds convenience for groups looking to combine dining, drinking, and other activities in one outing. The building’s distinct heritage as an old library makes it an easy landmark to find, and the outdoor patio area offers an additional draw for groups seeking a semi-private, relaxed space. While parking and busy hours might vary as with any city bar, the venue’s welcoming environment compensates by providing comfortable seating and a social vibe that helps groups settle in quickly. Its versatile setting means it can accommodate small to large gatherings, with staff generally attuned to the rhythm of managing groups across bar and patio spaces, facilitating enjoyable social experiences regardless of party size.

What should groups consider when planning a meetup at Kangaroo & Kiwi?

Groups planning to meet at Kangaroo & Kiwi should factor in a few practical considerations to ensure their visit is smooth and enjoyable. Because the kitchen and food service have been noted for slower preparation times, especially with larger groups, it may be wise to prioritize the venue for drinks and social activities rather than full meals, or plan supplemental dining nearby. Arriving early or making a reservation for patio seating could enhance the experience during busier times, particularly if you value a quieter or more spacious area. The drink menu is a standout feature, so groups who appreciate trying diverse craft beers and ciders will find this spot very rewarding. Additionally, incorporating some of the provided games like darts into your meetup can create memorable moments and keep everyone engaged. Finally, while the atmosphere is mostly friendly and fun, keeping in mind that service quality may vary on occasion ensures that expectations match the venue’s casual, pub-style character.

In summary, Kangaroo & Kiwi stands out as a unique and enjoyable destination for social gatherings thanks to its distinct Aussie-New Zealand theme, extensive beverage options, casual games, and indoor-outdoor spaces ideal for groups. Though the food is not the main attraction, the overall experience is well-suited to laid-back meetups, celebrations, and sports viewing parties, making it a solid choice for your next outing with friends or family in Seattle.
