Had so much fun from beginning to end. The guides make this a very special outing and tho it may be boring to them because they’ve done hundreds of times , they never act like it is. Instead they (Aggie, Nick and Cameron) were completely attentive, entertaining and helpful. We laughed and learned and had a great day. I’d do it again and I highly recommend it you’re up for an adventure.

We loved our ride and kayak tour on the LA River! The tour was so well organized and our guides were amazing and so friendly. This company goes out of their way to make sure you have a great trip down the river. I would not suggest this tour if this is your first time kayaking however there were many rocks and fast turns…very fun as experienced paddlers though!

An Urban Escape You Never Knew Existed You're probably thinking, "Kayak the LA River? Why the f*ck would anyone want to do that?" I asked myself the same question years ago before experiencing it firsthand. The answer will surprise you. This hidden stretch of river feels nothing like the concrete channel you've seen in movies. Once you push off, you're transported into a lush, wild ecosystem that has no business existing in the middle of an urban sprawl. Dense vegetation closes in around you, birds call overhead, and for brief, magical moments, you forget you're in Los Angeles altogether. The beauty of LA River Kayak Safari is this: without leaving Glendale, you can escape completely. No traffic-choked drive to the mountains or beach required. Just you, a paddle, and this surreal juxtaposition of tropical-feeling wilderness framed by distant urban edges. It's the kind of transformative experience that recalibrates your understanding of this city and reminds you that wonder still exists in the overlooked corners we rush past every day. And here's the kicker – the best time to experience this hidden oasis is coming up soon. When summer hits and the vegetation explodes into life, you'll find yourself paddling through corridors of green that feel impossibly remote. In these uncertain times, when mental escapes are more valuable than ever, consider this your prescription for urban renewal. A few hours on this river might be exactly what your overloaded mind needs right now. Plan ahead – their season typically runs from late May through September, and this unexpected journey through LA's secret wilderness is worth marking on your calendar. As native Angelenos, we at Pau Hana are committed to helping paddlers discover the hidden waterways of Los Angeles County. This recommendation is part of our ongoing collection of unexpected local paddling destinations that most locals don't even know exist. We believe in connecting people with outdoor experiences right in their backyard – because sometimes the most profound adventures don't require leaving your city at all, just seeing it through new eyes, from a new perspective, with a paddle in your hands. Your mind needs this escape. Your spirit deserves this renewal. The river is waiting.

This is so fun! Everyone thinks of the LA River as being a cement sewer, but in the Frogtown area and the Sepulveda Basin area it's actually beautiful and green and boatable! I took a tour on the Frogtown area and it has some fun little rapids or adventure areas, but nothing too scary. It's a fantastic way to spend an LA afternoon, or a place to bring out of town guests. The tour guides are really fun, but also safe so you are in good hands.
