I have to admit that as students, a lot of time was spent price shopping online instead of paying the sticker price for a book at Barnes&Noble - wonder how many people still remember that! In any case, found some great books including one that contained an essay by Avi Shlaim. Probably the only store worth going to in this busy marketplace.

Unfortunately, my experience was overshadowed by the unwelcoming attitude of the staff. From the moment I entered, I felt more like a burden than a valued customer. While there was a mask requirement and the reasoning wasn’t entirely clear, I was glad to respect it without asking questions as I was a guest in their establishment. However, what I wasn’t comfortable with was being condescended to for the way I wore my mask, despite wearing it properly and fully covering both my nose and mouth the entire time. It almost felt like the person working wanted a reason to have an altercation for some reason. I felt extremely uncomfortable. The whole experience was disheartening as bookstores should be inviting spaces that foster curiosity and a love for reading.

As I was researching book stores in the Seattle area for a trip, this one was number one on my list. When I entered, looking at books, I did see some masks being offered on the table.. I assumed as anywhere in the world at the moment, it's a freedom of choice to wear a mask or not in 2025. If you have symptoms, thats a different story... I was abruptly approached by an employer wearing a mask - telling me it was mandatory, handing me over a mask. I'm quite an easy going, respectful, and understanding person but this made me very uncomfortable. Uncomfortable enough to leave the store immediately , as if felt more of a domineering and authorial arrogant energy- steaming from the employer, as I have worked in the medical field for over 10 year.. I would advise anyone with common sense not to visit this store and go elsewhere.
