Tried coming here a couple of weeks ago with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday, and the experience was incredibly disappointing. We were a group of 15 and arrived early, waiting in line like everyone else. The line was moving quickly, so we didn’t anticipate any issues. However, after about half of our group got in, the bouncer abruptly and rudely told the rest of us that no one else would be allowed in for the rest of the night and that we should just go home. He even said we’d be wasting our time if we tried waiting. I politely asked if there was any chance the rest of our group could join to celebrate the birthday, and his response was unnecessarily defensive and condescending—he went on a complete power trip and made it clear there was zero chance of accommodating us. If this is the kind of attitude the venue allows at the door, I have no interest in ever coming back. We were ready to celebrate, stay for a while, and have a good time, but instead, we were treated with complete disrespect. Once those inside heard what happened, they came back out, and we all left together. It’s a shame—this place came highly recommended, but the unprofessional and arrogant behavior of the bouncer completely ruined the night. Definitely not worth the time or energy.

This used to be, hands-down, the best bar in the neighborhood. The cocktails are excellent, the pool table was free or cheap, the crowd was chill and friendly. And then The Renovation. Now, it pretends to be a nightclub. The music is at painful volume at all times, even afternoons with only a handful of people in the bar. It's difficult to hear a person even sitting directly next to you. I don't know how the staff put up with it. When there *is* a crowd, it's completely unmanageable. Gentrification takes away so many great spots, but this is somehow an even worse shame, a neighborhood institution that became the Chipotle version of itself.

This is a ok bar. I like the environment more than the actual drinks. They also had a lot of flies when I went which was a bit annoying

Nice little dive bar, good vibes from the DJ. Parking is a NIGHTMARE on Dodgers game days though: I’d recommend staying away from this area altogether if you’re planning on getting here after the game.

There was indeed a very little joy at this place. Obnoxious security and the owner, poorly made cocktails and overall extremely disrespectful attitude towards guests. Not surprised of poor rating. There are much better places around it!

What activities can your group enjoy at Little Joy Cocktails? The highlight is the pool table, which draws many groups for casual, competitive fun. It’s a great way to break the ice, engage everyone, and create some friendly rivalry. The bar’s intimate size means games feel social and inclusive, with a chalkboard to sign up for your turn. Besides pool, the bar regularly features karaoke nights, especially on Wednesdays, which can turn any meet-up into a lively, interactive party. Singing with friends or cheering on others adds an energetic, participatory dimension that strengthens group bonds. When not playing games or performing, you can simply relax in one of their large booths that encourage conversation and provide a comfortable spot to hang out together. The minimalist music selection, comprised of rotating guitar, rock, and jazz records, sets a chilled yet vibrant soundscape that enhances social interaction without overwhelming it.

Why is Little Joy Cocktails perfect for group meetups? First, its pricing makes it easy to afford a night out for everyone. With beer prices starting around $5 and rotating selections on tap—including options like gluten-free brews—your group can enjoy a variety of drinks without breaking the bank. Happy hour specials from 5-9 pm further sweeten the deal, offering $10 pilsners or lagers accompanied by well shots. This accessibility means no one in your group feels excluded due to cost. Secondly, the atmosphere is refreshingly unhurried and no-frills, encouraging guests to engage fully with their companions instead of being distracted by over-the-top décor or complicated menus. The bartenders are known for being personable and skilled without any pretense, ensuring service is friendly and fast enough to keep the night flowing smoothly. Finally, the bar’s layout—featuring several booths and standing space for mingling—caters well to different group sizes and social preferences, from intimate conversations to mingling and meeting new people.

What should you expect from the ambiance and crowd at Little Joy Cocktails? The bar has a divey, hipster charm characterized by its concrete floors, lacquered parquet wood bar, and clean but simple interiors. While the space is relatively small, it vibrates with energy, especially on themed or game nights when it gets crowded but never overly uncomfortable. The crowd tends to be mostly locals and twenty-somethings who are there to enjoy music, games, and affordable drinks in a chill, social environment. The vibe is casual and unpretentious, with minimal pressure on patrons, making it a relaxed refuge from the more intensive trendy bars in LA. Music is eclectic, featuring live-in-the-moment guitar, rock, and jazz, played primarily on records, which adds warmth and character to the space. This atmosphere cultivates genuine interactions and a sense of community, making it easy for groups to feel at home and for new friendships to form.

How does Little Joy Cocktails stand out compared to other bars in the area? Unlike many bars that emphasize elaborate craft cocktails, this bar prides itself on simplicity and authenticity. The drink menu is brief but well-curated, focusing on quality beers and straightforward drinks rather than complicated, expensive cocktails. This appeals to those who prefer substance over flash, creating a low-pressure environment for drinkers of all preferences. The bar’s proximity to Dodger Stadium also contributes to its popularity, serving as a convenient and lively spot before and after games, drawing energetic crowds. With concrete floors, newly lacquered bar surfaces, and exceptionally clean restrooms, Little Joy combines dive bar grit with attentive maintenance, showing respect for its patrons. The bartenders’ great personalities and lack of rush create an atmosphere where patrons can feel comfortable lingering as long as they want, a rarity in many popular LA bars where turnover is often fast.

What are the logistics and tips for planning a group meetup at Little Joy Cocktails? Since the bar has only 14 coveted bar seats and two booths, arriving early can help your group secure a good spot, especially on busy nights like karaoke or themed events. For larger groups, mixing booth seating with standing room near the bar or pool table works well, promoting mingling throughout the space. The intimate size encourages groups to engage closely with one another, enhancing the social experience. Food options are not available on site, so it’s advisable to plan a bite before or after your visit—nearby eateries like Quarter Sheets Pizza are excellent complements. Lastly, be aware that the bartenders keep a straightforward approach to orders; don’t expect complex cocktails but do expect quality pours and attentive service. Overall, preparation and understanding the bar’s vibe will ensure your group maximizes the fun.

How can Little Joy Cocktails serve as a hub for diverse social occasions? Whether it’s a casual catch-up, a birthday celebration, or a post-concert outing, this bar adapts easily to different group needs. The availability of games like pool and lively karaoke nights add layers of entertainment beyond just drinking, making the venue dynamic and engaging for all tastes. The welcoming, unpretentious staff and crowd foster inclusivity, meaning newcomers can feel comfortable joining long-time regulars. The space’s manageable size encourages intimate conversations but also offers enough room for spirited group activities.
