What took us so long? Finally made it to this 102 year old institution and it immediately became our favorite breakfast spot in the city. The old school diner vibe, the salty yet sweet demeanor of our server, the adorable hostess in her 90’s who holds your hand as she guides you to your table, the simplicity of the menu offerings, the fluffiness of the omelette, the delicately sliced potatoes that comprised their hash browns, their bold claim of serving the best coffee on the planet, the complimentary orange slices and donuts to start the meal, the sinfully delicious Greek toast, and the complementary soft serve to finish things off all resulted in a damn near perfect experience. The Greek bread was so good that we bought a loaf. At $9.95, and as long as my arm, this bread might be the best value in the city. This is a must visit in Chicago and I cannot wait to go again.

This place was fantastic. Everything was well made, delicious and huge. No, really, huge. Do not skip their baked goods or homemade jelly. 🤤 It took a bit to get our food. The wait was worth it, but I’d say it’s not a quick stop place. I was surprised about their coffee. I’m a hard more-milk-and-sugar-than-coffee, but somehow loved their black coffee as it was. It was packed. Even though they have tons of space,there were tons of people waiting to be seated at all times. Everyone who works here looks like they’ve worked here for forever. They all are nice enough, but in a distracted (they’re super busy) and very city like way. I loved it. It has this charm to it… I don’t know how to explain it. Can’t wait to come back!

Wanted to love it, but I did not. I ordered the mushroom, onion, tomato peppers omelette, rye toast, coffee. The complementary orange slice and donut was delicious. The coffee was not. The omelette comes in a frying pan; which was not hot. The potatoes julienne were bland and not hot. The omelette was wet ( instantly unappealing) and also not hot. I like my breakfast to be hot. Once the food was reheated, it was better, but I lost all interest. I ate enough to get me through the morning. The rustic rye bread and butter was the best. Hope your experience is better. High A/C not helping.

On our trip to Chicago, my boyfriend and I arrived very early in the city. This restaurant was open around 8:00 am we arrived and were served by a very friendly woman. We sat outside, the waiters served us quickly. The food was delicious, the pancakes were extra soft and had an incredible flavor. The woman is attentive to the diners. After 9:00 am it started to fill up, and a long line formed. Excellent place, I highly recommend it

Went with my best friend who is allergic to nuts. Luckily she saw the “warning” on the menu that said everything is cooked in peanut oil. She ate the salmon eggs Benedict without the potatoes. We walked in with no reservation and was seated in a few minutes. The vibe was like a diner. Had coat/ purse hooks on edge of booths. They tightly packed tables in between the rows of booths but you were still able to move around. Bathrooms were down some stairs. They had an expansive menu but the food was okay. I expected more flavor and a softer texture for the cinnamon raisin bread. The potatoes were a bit sad and I added a lot of pepper and some salt. The egg muffin under the eggs Benedict was difficult to cut and the salmon made the whole bit quite salty. The complementary donuts and ice cream samples were delicious.
