Loyola University Chicago stands as a prominent private Jesuit research university located in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1870 by the Society of Jesus, it honors Saint Ignatius of Loyola and has grown to become one of the largest Catholic universities in the United States. The university’s main Lake Shore Campus, set on the picturesque shores of Lake Michigan, provides an ideal urban environment that blends natural beauty with dynamic city life, making it an attractive spot for students and visitors alike. Loyola hosts approximately 17,000 students across its thirteen colleges and schools, offering more than 80 undergraduate programs and over 140 graduate and professional programs. Its diverse offerings include well-regarded professional schools in medicine, nursing, health sciences, and law. The university is classified as an "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity" institution, emphasizing its commitment to robust academic research and scholarship. Beyond academics, Loyola fosters a lively community spirit through its athletic teams known as the Ramblers, who compete in NCAA Division I and have a historic legacy including a 1963 NCAA men's basketball championship and recent achievements in men’s volleyball. My son is so lucky to be going to one of the top Chicago university! It was such a wonderful experience attending his orientation today. Not only the Loyola University has the most amazing campus. The staff, the student leaders and everybody were just so friendly, knowledgeable and so accommodating. My son was initially nervous; but after meeting and bonding with his group, he felt at ease and comfortable meeting new students. As a parent, knowing that my son is in a safe and great environment away from home is really comforting.

The admissions office is a JOKE! They literally put people in the position who can’t help or provide the correct information for students. Dorian addressed me with a ATTITUDE after asking about a application status and when I asked for more information or another Transfer Consultant he said it was “ High Volume” & it was no one else I could speak too but him & I can’t just “drop in”. For one I’m calling to check & speak with my advisor who is never available & TWO I CANT MAKE A APPOINTMENT BECAUSE CLEARLY NO ONE REPLIES . I’ve never heard that before when Ive called previously so Dorian needs to be put through training on ACTUALLY HELPING STUDENTS.

Warning. I work for Loyola and making this review highly suspect. The university has grown in student numbers, numbers of program, student achievement and service to the city of Chicago. What makes Loyola stand out from others is the unapologetic mission of the school. We strive to become a person for others. We believe in strong academics, unwavering integrity and we believe in helping others. When students graduate from Loyola there is an expectation they will remember they are truly privileged people and that they have an obligation to find ways to assist others. It's a Jesuit university, but being Catholic is not a requirement for entrance. In fact more than half of the students attending Loyola are not Catholic. Loyola is the only college basketball team to have won a national championship and that was back in 1963. The program has been dormant for the most part since then. That is until last year when Loyola was the Cinderella team of the NCAA Tournament and the darling of international media thanks in large part to Sister Jean, the teams spiritual leader. A bona fide firecracker, Sister Jean took America, Africa and European media by storm during the tournament. The fairy tale season took the Ramblers to the Final Four where they lost to a very good Michigan team.
