Wr loved it, great spot. We just couldn't find many books that represented the black culture.

This bookstore was HUGE. You could easily spend a couple of hours here and not find every gem. That’s part of what made this place fun - but the organization was a bit haphazard. Prices were very affordable and we found a few books for our kids back home.

Suppose you want to go back to a simpler time with no technology. This is your place! They have tons of books! Yes, some are older, but hey, don’t judge a book by its cover. They also have newer books as well! They have an excellent store credit program! So you can always bring books you no longer want and get some store credit! They are an analog store, so they don’t have their inventory cataloged, but that makes it more fun! You never know what treasures you may find! And finally, support small businesses!!

The staff was warm and welcoming with plenty of help to offer. There were endless selections and many good options of all genres to choose from. The cookies and their unique flavors offered toward the front caught both my mom’s and my eyes.

I’m sorry to report that tomorrow, May 3, 2018, the Oak Cliff branch of Lucky Dog Books will be closing. Today was my first visit and i have to admit being a bit emotional as I walked through the store. I have fond memories of book stores in Southern California in the 80’s and 90’s... this store is as stuffed to the brim, nook-filled, supremely comfortable and quiet as I remember those other places. I was the only customer there the 1hr.+ I browsed, which I suppose explains why it’s closing. The Casa Linda and Mesquite (Paperbacks Plus) stores remain open. Please support small businesses!
