I’ve been coming here since I was a child, which is nearly 40 years. It’s a simple bakery and coffee shop, no longer offering lunch service. However, there are three two-top tables where you can sit, sip coffee, and enjoy a pastry. I returned to buy a box of pastries and strudel. The prices are similar to those at other bakeries. As the costs of butter, sugar, eggs, and flour rise, so do the prices of baked goods. They still have the classics: Napoleons, éclairs, fruit tarts, cake slices, and viennoiseries like strudels, croissants, and Danish pastries. They also sell cookies by the pound and have a standard coffee menu.

7/9/25 One Of The Few Bakeries That Still Sell Old World German Marzipan Cake...Lutz Bakery has the best products. Their tasty Marzipan cake is my favorite (vanilla cake with a light flavoring of cherries and rum, filled with raspberry buttercream and a Marzipan shell). It's moist and light, and the Marzipan brings me back for my German roots with the love of almond flavor. Although pricy at $8.99 a slice, I turn that into a plus. Not having the money to come here all the time makes the occasional trip that more special. They use high-quality ingredients and the price worth it. They even have a nice indoor seating area with tables, and the restaurant is disability friendly. (They have two washrooms, and there's plenty of room to bring a walker, stroller, shopping cart or wheelchair to the table). Their prices also aren't shocking. All Chicago bakeries cost a lot. (It's just the rising cost of food that's going up everywhere). And it's one of the few bakeries that still sell Marzipan cake. (Last bakery I knew of was Swedish Bakery on Clark, and they closed down). I'm grateful to still be able to get this item. Vielen Dank (Many Thanks) Lutz Bakery!

Ok we have loved lutz. But it has gone way too expensive I don’t think we can come here any more. We just order two small things and this is how thin the cake it is. $15 for this? Wow.

Lutz's bakery has been a staple pastry shop in the Horner Park neighborhood for over 40 years! The apple strudel, cookies, pastries, and fantastic cakes are legendary! I have purchased cakes from Lutz for over 20 years! Everything they have is top quality.

This shop was recommended to me and I am sold on their pastries!!! The little I have sampled was phenomenal! The cake was spongy and moist with a wonderful fresh buttercream. The strudel soft but flaky. The flavors were so well balanced, not too sweet and absolutely not bland. The staff members wes knowledgeable of everything in stock, and the gentleman that helped me was a very cool guy. If I didn't cut myself off, I would have bought one of everything. Whenever I'm in that part of town, it'll be a must to stop in.
