It's a charming little place even with its musty smell. Despite its old school look, it's sure to bring back memories to some of you Gen Exer's out there. We grew up with a lot of puppetry. I recommend this and then visit the Puppet Museum in Portugal. It's a simple little show, nothing fancy, but the cute puppet characters. They have a few special effects and basic background sounds. It's cute and worth a visit.

Went to see the "The Origin of Clowns" and while the history lesson was somewhat of interest to the adults, my 3 year old granddaughter kept asking where the puppets were. I was so disappointed as I had enjoyed bringing my kids back in the day. We were the only ones there and the performance was certainly not worth the money we paid. I'd hate to see it close but they definitely need performances that actually have puppets interacting some story with each other that kids will enjoy.

Went to the “Halloween” show with our 10yr old. Definitely felt like we overpaid at $7/ ticket- LOL- truly terrible show that felt phoned in. Maybe it was good in its heyday. No actual puppets, just poorly cut out shadow puppets, voice actors that sounded like they didn’t want to be there and humorless script. It was almost so bad it was amazing- but it wasn’t that either…. Just kinda bad. Perhaps a nice place to sit in A/C for a half hour.

We enjoyed the magic show, but the theater is run down and stinky. When you first walk in the floor is littered with debris and dry cat good. There were brooms and a shop vac in the foyer too. It's like entering through the janitorial closet.

Our kids had a great time. A fun place to spend 30-45 min in balboa park for elementary or preschool age children.
