During my initial visit, I encountered an unfortunate situation regarding my service dog, who was not on a leash. I was informed that, due to this, I was no longer welcome and that the store would not sell me anything. I was given the option to leave, or they could call the police, to which I encouraged them to proceed. At this time, I was surrounded by the manager and four employees, who made comments such as, "Oh, he's a lawyer," and "He knows all the laws." Such remarks can be mentally distressing, regardless of the audience. I felt that I was experiencing unprofessional behavior from Bob and the other staff members. Additionally, I requested a scooter so that my service dog could sit in my lap—a common practice I have encountered in other establishments—but was informed that none were available. As I moved to another area, another employee remarked that if anything occurred, it would be my dog's fault. When another staff member gestured for him to stop, he walked away. Eventually, I returned to the area where I had been stopped. When the police arrived, they listened to my account and confirmed that I was entirely justified in my use of a service dog, differentiating it from an emotional support animal. The officer then spoke with Bob, and upon their return, stated that the situation was now resolved and clarified that he had only suggested not selling me anything until the officer arrived. Not to say the store is a bad place, it's a very nice store.

The store is great, they have good stock/inventory and it’s local. Those are pretty strong selling points for me. However, they are either taking huge profits or have a bad accountant. The same brand, product and sku (across the board) seems to be 50-100% more expensive than Home Depot ~3 minutes away. It’s a great place to have as a last resort when you need something in a rush and are willing to pay for convenience.

However, I regret to say that this review is a complaint, and it is with disapointment that I write this review. I first complained to customer service. The person I talked to said someone would get back to me. More than a week has gone by, no one has called. We bought a wood stove. We bought it from you because we want you to have our business, which is, in this case, around $5,200. I paid to have it "Delivered." I asked my wife if she wanted to shop at a fireplace store. "No," my wife said, "I would rather give my money to McGukin." Delivery was waiting for a part to come in. Time goes by, and we call, and delivery tells us they will call when the part arrives to schedule a delivery. Meanwhile, I am trying to schedule installation, and this is the second window I have missed, causing significant inconvenience. But I understand, it is what it is, and it certainly wasn't your fault in anyway. But, delivery doesn't call. A week and a half goes by, and my wife calls again. Delivery tells us the part is there and that they will deliver it in two hours. She hands the phone to me to arrange the details. The delivery guy makes a point of letting me know that when he comes, McGukin doesn't do an actual delivery, but what you do is "drop off" a heavy, expensive item at the curb, and I have to figure out how to uncrate the stove and get it in my house. Honestly, I wouldn't have purchased the stove from you if I had known the type of service you provide. Not being willing to walk up four stairs and put the fireplace in my sunroom is not a delivery but a rude, negligent drop-off service. I have had my grand piano delivered all over the country. I never once expected the delivery service to dump the piano at the curb and say, "Here it is; it is up to you to get it in the house." I had the same experience with an appliance store in Boulder; I guarantee I will never buy an appliance from them again. I can't imagine the arrogance of someone dumping an expensive appliance or wood stove at the curb. How does that work in a snowstorm, or neighborhood that isn't that secure? It is a ridiculous customer service issue. Who does that? I wouldn't buy anything from a retail store, especially a large, heavy item that doesn't do an actual delivery. Imagine Amazon suddenly saying, "Delivery" now means we drop packages at your curb. Or, let s say you buy a $5,200 sofa from Restoration Hardware, and the delivery guy drops it to the curb and says, "Not my job, not my problem, you figure it out from here." Fortunately, I was home and had great neighbors, so the stove was unpacked, delivered, and placed in my house two hours after you completed the rude curb drop-off. That's how long it took to get people, uncrate the stove, etc. When I shared the story with everyone, their response is always the same: "I hate it when companies do this." The delivery guy also didn't review the inventory with me like I would expect to ensure everything was there. He didn't even ask me to sign anything, so I was forced to have to take his word that everything was delivered if something came up missing. I am deeply disappointed with your delivery service. I was left in an unacceptable position. REPLY TO RESPONSE BELOW: You absolutely did not inform my wife and I that you would be delivering to the curb. We would not have purchased from you had we known. You claim to have reached out to me but I have no text, email, or voice message from you. As far as I am concerned, that is a no response.
