We ate at the Mecca on a rainy Sunday morning and had the most delicious, warm, comforting breakfast. We started with bloody Mary’s that were loaded with goodies, then corned-beef hash and country ham, and finally our waitress surprised us with complementary shrimp and grits. It was hands-down the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had. Flavorful and hearty, plus the cheese pull was out of this world. The atmosphere was so cozy and classic; picture perfect for a rainy day. We can’t wait to come back next time we’re in Raleigh!

The food was phenomenal! I enjoyed some grits, country ham, bacon, a biscuit and eggs over hard. My husband had a breakfast burger. The food was out pretty quick and there was no wait at all to be seated which was great. Our waitress was friendly and refilled drinks before we ever had to ask.

Disappointed in this place. Had high hopes for this place. Had a few people tell me this was the place to go. We ordered onion rings, took good 30 minutes before came to us, I get it. They were short handed and the guy was doing everything but never check on us or told us how much longer our food will be. Our food came out about 10 to 15 minutes later. Her breaded fish was cold and creep her out that there was skin still on the fish. Her rice was cold and was barely any cole sław. There was more batter then fish. The Hawaiian chicken: took them about 15 to 20 minutes to tell me that they had no pinneapple. They seem to have ran out of a lot of stuff. We came little before noon. Pecan pie was warm, wasn't expecting that. Was almost melted well trying to eat it. I did love the feel of the restaurant. Seeing all the different knick knack on the walls, beautiful lights.

Went there for brunch and it was very good. Cozy place with very traditional menu. Service was great, and food came out quick. Portions were good and price was great too. I would go there again. We tried omelet, French toast and their hot plates. Coffee wasn't the best though, hopefully they change their blend.

I spent three days in Raleigh in May 2025 for no particular reason - but wandered across Mecca looking for a good old-fashioned breakfast experience. I'm no New Yorker, but I felt a little bit like Joe Pesci and Marissa Tomei having breakfast at the Wazoo Diner - and that's precisely the experience I was looking for. The grits hugged my soul with every bite. The eggs, yolks perfectly warm and runny, drenched the buttery toast and stuck to my ribs for hours as I wandered the city on foot. The sausage patties were everything you'd want from a classic diner - just the right texture and spice. I didn't catch her name, but the counter server was friendly and very attentive. It seemed the day I visited was the first day on the job for the new GM, Big DD - I wish you and your staff continued success for another 100 years!
