Pretty disappointed, mind you I only called to ask if they had a certain fabric and the first time I called they hung up on me and so I called again and did the extension that I believe the fabric would be in and the lady that answered did not sound very happy and she did go and look for the fabric I was looking for but it was only in reds and pinks. I said that was okay as this is for making a dress for my daughters 2nd birthday coming up and the lady just laughed at me and said I don’t know.. I don’t know.. I am glad I called before because I was going to drive from Salem to get this fabric.. I have been looking all over and this was the place that had the most options, but I will no longer go there today.. maybe I will try another time.. people should not laugh at people for wanting a specific fabric for a project.. let alone laughing at the fact that I want to make a dress for my 2 year old. Do better.

Amazing store! Prices can be a bit higher then I am use to. But it was worth it! Left the store spending WAY more then expected. Spent easily 3 hours looking through fabrics of all kinds. The customer service is amazing! Many of the workers helped me with my questions, cutting, price questions. One woman even was so kind & even helped me find some lace trim for a project I am working on. Definitely want to go again for more fabric!

Fantastic selection of fabric, trims, and anything else you could want for sewing. The employees are very friendly and knowledgeable too! Highly recommend if you too are mourning the loss of Joanns and need a new spot to fulfill your sewing needs.

The selection here is unmatched, but the shopping experience is always wonderful because of the staff. Everyone on staff knows the stock and is helpful and friendly. You can trust their advice and—bonus!—they always seem genuinely curious about what it is you’re making. Thank you!

This is the best fabric store and possibly the last one in Oregon or the whole United States if we all keep being assholes to one another. Crafting has become an extreme privilege and we need to invest more in creativity in this world or else we will not have the right to do. I love the Mill End store and I hope that we can invest more in our ability to create and imagine what the world will be like if we could create it.

What makes Mill End Store unique compared to other Portland venues for a group outing?

Unlike many typical meetup venues such as cafés or parks, Mill End Store delivers a highly immersive experience grounded in creativity and learning. While Portland has many popular social spots, few combine shopping with the kind of interactive, skill-building experiences that Mill End offers. For example, fabric stores generally tend to be solo or small group shopping places, but Mill End flips this by encouraging social interactions through workshops, classes, and shared crafting projects.

The sheer volume and diversity of stock—reportedly as plentiful as the book selection at Powell’s—give groups a nearly endless palette to explore, discuss, and acquire materials for new projects. This alone makes group visits vibrant and engaging, as each member can pursue their interests while still participating in a collective experience.

Additionally, Mill End Store’s staff stand out for their expert knowledge and friendly approach, helping to facilitate group learning and ensuring that everyone feels supported, from novices to experienced crafters. This personal touch adds an invaluable element to your group outing that typical venues cannot match.

All these factors make Mill End Store a truly distinctive option for groups looking to spend quality time in a setting that promotes creativity, learning, and connection.

Group members can collectively design projects, share inspiration, and purchase quality materials on site, fueling enthusiasm and innovation. This makes the store not just a place to buy supplies but a launchpad for community creativity.

Special events hosted or facilitated by the store, such as seasonal fabric launches or sustainability initiatives, provide exciting opportunities to celebrate creativity with your group while engaging in meaningful activities. These events often include demonstrations or mini-workshops that boost your group's skills and understanding of different textile techniques.

The availability of personalized assistance means groups can plan thoughtful projects around members' skill levels and interests, ensuring that everyone from beginners to advanced makers feels motivated and included. This collaborative dynamic is ideal for team-building, family gatherings, or friends wanting to deepen their crafting bonds.

Complementing all of this is the historical and environmental consciousness Mill End Store emphasizes, enriching each visit with a sense of purpose and connection to the community and natural world—perfect for groups who value more than just socializing.
