I started taking classes at the first Mud Studio in Austin the Fall of 2021 and was instantly hooked. The instructors are incredibly talented, supportive, and passionate. It’s hard not to fall in love with ceramics in an environment like this. I’m now a proud member at their beautiful new location, and somehow it’s even better than the original: bright, spacious, and full of creative energy. It’s truly a welcoming, inspiring space. Not at all surprised they’ve expanded to San Antonio! This place is the real deal. Highly, highly recommend!

I’ve taken various classes at Mud - private, one-time wheel, and regularly take the handbuilding 6-week sessions with Hillary Cumberworth. Hillary is amazing - always helping me figure out how to make something work, providing inspiration - and I enjoy the commitment of the ongoing class to get me out to do something creative on a weekday evening, away from screens. I wish there were more regular hours with the open studio times but other than that it’s a great spot and community.

I love Mud Studio! I have taken three 6-week classes here over the last couple of years and have had a great experience every time. My most recent class was a handbuilding class and I plan to take another one soon. Hillary is an awesome instructor! She helped me figure out how to make some fun sculptures and I can’t wait to take another class with her. Mud is a small studio, and you typically have to sign up for classes as soon as they are live, but they post the class schedules a few days before so you can plan ahead. Highly recommend!

Getting a 6 week beginners wheel course was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I love that each week you learn a new technique and then you get set loose to throw as much clay as you’d like that day. After my first few sessions I really dialed in the centering technique with the help of my instructor (you’ll catch on quick the more clay you throw!)… and I walked away from the course with at least 2 dozen little plates and cups that I actually use. Functional art is the best. I highly recommend taking a course with Mud Studio!

I can't recommend Mud Studio enough for all levels of pottery experience! Since my first class in January 2023, I've taken 4 6-week wheel courses at Mud. I was a total beginner, and it's rewarding to see how far I've come in 1 year. It's all due to the instructors who are talented, patient, supportive and kind. The studio itself is a lovely environment and fully equipped with all of the tools you need to create, fire and glaze your pieces. The website and booking system are easy to use, and if any questions arise, the owner is quick to answer. Mud also has one-time classes and open studio hours available, so people can come and create outside of the 6 week courses as well. All in all, a great place for beginners and experts alike, looking for a fun, safe, comfortable pottery community in Austin!
