Here's what people think of OCHRE HOUSE THEATER
As of recent, OCHRE HOUSE THEATER holds a 4.8-star rating based on 76 reviews.
Reviews consistently praise Ochre House Theater for its originality, intimate atmosphere, and creative productions. Users highlight the exceptional writing, often quirky and surprising, combined with powerful, raw acting and fantastical music, contributing to a distinctive theatrical experience that pushes conventional boundaries. Positive feedback also emphasizes the company's passion and commitment to their craft, noting the infectious enthusiasm of the cast and crew and the chance to witness plays that are rarely seen elsewhere. On the negative side, some patrons might find the avant-garde nature of performances challenging if they prefer traditional theater formats. The niche, surreal style described as “Suavant-garde” may not appeal to everyone’s taste, and the limited size of the venue naturally means fewer seats and occasional difficulty securing reservations for popular shows. The theater’s ongoing recognition, including top local awards and community support, underscores its positive reputation and cultural significance.

A novel little theatre with limited stage space with a turntable stage. The choreography was probably the best I’ve seen using that type stage, and an imaginative production company having strong Celtic overtones, at least for the Moving Creatures production this May. I’ll definitely go again for upcoming summer shows. One thing is show up early and sit forward. It has flat seating but it works with the stage elevated a bit, unless a woman wearing a big white cowboy hat outfit comes in at the last minute and parks in front of you while spilling red wine all over the place.

KAPUT was a great show! Had a great time for my first experience in the theater. Quite an intimate feel and not big, but still a good time! Had driven by the theater a few times, but never stepped in. Came to support a cast member and friend (Janet). Writer/Director Matthew Posey did an awesome job and cast and music was superb. Definitely come back again in the future!

This is always a good call. It’s perpetually a laboratory space for a very seasoned troupe of professionals—I’ve never left without an image or an idea or a moment that doesn’t linger with me. Most often plays with music, seats 60 or so, perhaps the most unique theater in DFW—especially considering its longevity. Highly highly recommend—if you don’t love the first show, wait a few weeks and go see the next one.
