I volunteered weekly with this ministry back when it was the "Warming Center" of New Community Covenant Church. They still serve and support people experiencing homelessness and have also added on a food pantry. Open Arms is doing valuable work in Logan Square!

Open arms has turned into a scam for donations. Darryl Washington in charge of activities collects all the donations. Open arms and the homeless don't see 10%. Before DWashington took over we fed 75people breakfast and lunch. Coffee warm clothes. A nurse came. They had a cook. They had a huge food pantry. Transportation. A computer to use . When it was below zero we stayed open till 9pm. We had a Christmas party for 150 homeless guests. Food and gift bags. A monthly dinner All that is gone. And it was in decline before covid. Daryl put donations as the top priority. All the donations are being misused . The homeless are left with a peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Faith without works is dead. I use to get mail at open arms. A check of mine. 2313$ was forged by someone and deposited in a chase account. I would not donate to open arms. There are plenty good causes that are honest. Darryl Washington is a criminal in my opinion. I spent 6 years volunteering at open arms. I had a full view of what all went on at open arms.
