Authentic, no frills Chinese food in China town, this is the spot to go if you want to order authentic Chinese dishes. They offer the dim sum menu 11am-3pm which has a ton of options and is 20% off if you pay with cash. Dim sum is a style of Cantonese cuisine consisting of small, bite-sized portions of food, traditionally served with tea We found that asking the people next to us to what they ordered was very helpful, since everyone eating there seemed to be Chinese and able to speak the language. Our server was very sweet but spoke little English. The menu is helpful since is has pictures of all the items they offer. My only complaint was the place was pretty hot inside- I was sticking to my upholstered chair- the decor in here is like a fancy banquet hall. That being said it was a 93 degree afternoon in chicago when we went to eat here. Overall- I was very pleased with the food, experience and feeling like I was at authentic local spot vs a chain Americanized restaurant. I’d recommend it if you’re looking for authentic. The shrimp rolls and shrimps/chicken pad Thai was excellent. Lots of dishes with shrimp.

As someone who doesn't like Chinese food this place was very good. It seems very authentic as most of the people there speak Chinese. You mark off what items you want and they bring all of them to you and you eat family style on a spiny thing in the middle. Some items weren't the best but most were very good! Definitely check this place out if you want authentic Chinese food.

Phoenix is an old standby dim sum restaurant that I’ve been to quite a few times over the years. The dim sum is fresh from top quality ingredients, served hot to the table and always offers a huge endless variety to choose from. Service is excellent with roomy tables overlooking the Chicago skyline. However, I was really disappointed as they did away with the traditional cart system that came around to the tables. They do give you a detailed pictured menu of all the dim sum and you order off that. The dim sum quality and taste are the same and the food is super hot when it arrives at your table. They do have a couple carts mingling around the dining room stacked with one particular dim but that’s about it. No matter what you order, it’s all really tasty with accompanying hoisin, soy, plum sauces and chili garlic oil. Prices and service are comparable to other dim sum places but Phoenix is still the best dim sum in Chinatown! Personal Tip: Order most of your dim sum at one time with second round afterward. They get a little confused as they use the 1 single paper ticket order and then add on to that for 2nd & 3rd rounds. Great food, friendly staff. Love that they have a weekday dim sum special if you pay by cash you get 20% off! All the dishes were great except the pan fried rice roll with the green onions and dried shrimp. Not sure why it had a slight bitter taste. The pan fried shrimp cakes were delicious. My 4 year old devoured the entire plate. My 9 year old loved the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves. There were so many dim sum choices in Chinatown but I choose phoenix. The decor and all the older Asian aunties and uncles dining there I just knew it was authentic.

Dated decor, average food quality and very low quality of service. I arrived at 10am sharp at the opening time but still incurred a moderate waiting time. As a regular to dim sum places across the US I don’t expect much service but the overall attitude from everyone serving food or getting the check was rather aggressive, if not rude. Overall not as good as it used to be and I don’t recommend it- given there are other nice places nearby
