I love this full service lab! I feel completely safe knowing that they are scanning my entire negative library, photographing all of my original artwork and working with myself and my publisher on my new book! Honestly, for one of the most popular labs in the East Bay, I had a lot of hope. I started using Photolab in May after having moved back to the Bay Area. I've only brought 2 rolls over (35mm, C41, Porta 160) on two separate occasions, but both times there have been defects across a large amount of the scanned exposures. On the first roll in the beginning of May, there were these green/white scan blotches that ranged in size across about 1/3rd of the scans. It was easy to identify, because they had clear squares to the shapes, having been a scan artifact. They did go through and rescan all my images, but when I called in on the phone, the person at the front desk was rude and dismissive. I know y'all are busy, I know that hearing there's issues can be much... but that's not okay. I decided to give them a second chance in mid-May, and this time, defects popped up across almost 1/2 of the scans. I sent over an email with the exposure numbers and notes as to the type/appearance of the defects and got told they didn't see them... This time there was only 1 blotch, but most of them had purple streaks (typically 3) that were completely noticeable across at least 1/2 the frame. It was harder to see in the daytime exposures, but if you were looking for them after seeing the night exposures, they were clearly there. So I sent over an email outlining the defects and expected to get back perfect scans. Unfortunately, all the defects were still there (but less apparent) and even on 1, it clearly looked like it was attempted AI/Photoshopped out. (I know that is quite the accusation, but when I can see digital artifacts of a different color, isolated only around the scan line location on that subject, but the scan line continues through the rest of the frame... that's pretty clear) All-in-all, besides offers of reworks when I brought up the issues, nothing else was done after paying $35/38 for processing and professional tiff scanning, I was just unimpressed at the level of service and care. Edit after the original post: My 1-star will still stand. The second roll that had scan lines and signs of unwanted alterations/corrections I got processed at another shop. Almost all the scan lines disappeared except for a few frames. As the roll after this was flawless as was the one before (both after getting the camera CLA'd), I'm unfortunately led to believe that something happened during development or for some reason there was an issue with the load which went away on the next roll which is truly unfortunate.

Great results as usual. I tried an online 'discount' service for a 20"x20" enlargement which came back highly pixelated and unusable. I gave the same negative file to the fine folks at PhotoLab. I picked up our photo yesterday and it looks GREAT! I won't stray again.

Tried this business for the first time and I couldn't be more happier to have found them. I'm a professional photographer and sourcing professional quality prints for my work is extremely important. I found the business as a result of google search and after doing some research I decided to try their print services. Ordering process was pretty straightforward- you place it online via their website. I was told that the usual turnaround time for prints is 1-2 business days but my order was ready in 4 hours. I was happy because it was a time sensitive product for me. Being local to the Bay helped as I could pick it up from their location in Berkeley. The print quality was exceptional and I can proudly gift it to one of my clients- a sentimental piece for their parenthood journey. Would definitely use their services again and highly recommend others to give them a try! P.S. I love they have a lot of parking space in such busy area of Berkeley!
