I have some complaints about a recent volleyball event this team participated in that I need to share. I was watching the game and I must say that what I saw out on the field was a big disappointment. Yes, the girls are learning the basics of volleyball, which is totally understandable and their improvement is noticeable. But we have to talk about RESPECT!!! During this weekend's FJCL event, Coach Mari's team, Playeros 13, had this player with the number 1 on her jersey, which was completely out of line. In the middle of a conversation between coaches and parents with the referee for a failure/error. This girl that I mentioned directly turned around and addressed a parent from the other team and made faces at him and gave him the middle finger!!! Can you believe it? …it was not a pleasant thing to see. And what's worse, apparently the parents saw it and did not intervene, since both the parents of the opposite team and the parents of Playeros were sitting in the same stands! How sad! And here's what really saddens me: this event is supposed to be about growth and learning, right? Learn techniques, understand the rules of the game, all those good and beautiful things about Volleyball. But instead, we are seeing behavior that is simply not good. And it's a reflection of poor education if you ask me. We have to do better. Let's keep it classy both on and off the court. -K.
