Why Power Center for the Performing Arts is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family

The Power Center for the Performing Arts, located on the University of Michigan's Central Campus in Ann Arbor, is a distinguished venue that beautifully blends architectural grandeur with intimate performance experiences. Opened in 1971, the theatre was built to fill a critical gap between too-large and too-small venues, providing a versatile proscenium-stage facility with a seating capacity of approximately 1,381. The building’s design by renowned architects Kevin Roche and John Dinkeloo features the Brutalist style, notable for its exposed concrete softened by ivy and mirrored glass panels that create a striking exterior. Inside, guests are treated to two majestic spiral staircases and artistic highlights including hand-woven tapestries by Roy Lichtenstein and Pablo Picasso in the lobby. The theatre ensures an intimate atmosphere where every seat is no more than 72 feet from the stage, enhancing audience engagement during a diverse range of performances such as ballet, musical concerts, and theatrical productions. The Power Center is well-known for its excellent acoustics, offering an auditory experience that enriches every show. This combination of thoughtful design, rich cultural offerings, and a welcoming environment make the Power Center an exceptional destination for meeting friends and enjoying world-class performing arts in Ann Arbor.

Power Center for the Performing Arts: Impressive Venue, Incredible Talent! My wife and I recently had the pleasure of seeing "Titanic: The Musical" at the Power Center, and we were thoroughly impressed! We were seated in the back row of the lower bowl, and the view was still fantastic. It really speaks to the thoughtful design of this theater that even from the back, you feel connected to the performance. For a venue that holds so many people, it seems like every seat truly offers a great vantage point. We were completely captivated by the production and the immense talent on display, especially the performers from the University of Michigan musical theater program. Their caliber is truly exceptional! We will absolutely be returning to the Power Center for the Performing Arts to experience more of the high-quality performances they host. It's a wonderful space to enjoy world-class talent.

On old yet comfortable theater with handicap seating. The walls are poured concrete and carpeting is well worn. Place could use new carpeting. Restrooms lower level accessed by stars. Not sure If there is an elevator. Parking covered close by. Great performances by the University here. Just saw La Boheme and it was amazing.
