As a physician I often counsel patients who have stress as a factor in their ill health. I tell them that mediation is an important tool in calming a stressed and overactive nervous system. I have tried many times and many different methods over the years to follow my own advice but with limited success. Just sitting thinking about nothing didn't work for me. Focusing on a mantra was not much better. It wasn't until I discovered the subtraction method taught at Raleigh Meditation Center that I had success in making real changes to my peace of mind with regular practice. I enjoy the people and I find the format affordable and user-friendly. The Raleigh meditation center has been a wonderful and safe place to learn how to calm my mind and ease the stress of a busy life. I recommend it highly. -

I have been searching for a way to improve my life for many, many years. I tried various ways such as attending a variety of church services, learning yoga and going to eastern philosophy retreats. As the years passed, I did not have any success with those methods. I was looking after my family, and going to work each day, but I was still feeling rather unexcited about my life. By all accounts, I appeared to have a nice life, I lived in a nice house, my children were doing well in school, and I held a responsible position at work. However, I really wasn't very happy. One day, a friend invited me to the Raleigh Meditation seminar. Upon listening to the information about this unique way of meditating, which was different than anything I tried in the past, I was excited to begin practicing ''subtraction'' meditation. After nearly 3 years of doing this meditation, my mood has lifted, I have much less stress, I'm actually happy at work and at home, and I'm sleeping well. If you are like me, and are looking for clarity, happiness, inner peace and greater success in your life, I highly recommend this method for you. I found the essential element that was missing, and you can too!

I have been dealing with so much added stress during these difficult times of late (as most everyone else has). Was in need of something positive in my life and found it here. They teach you how to calm the mind, relax and become more peaceful. I look forward to my daily meditation sessions and connecting with my instructor. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks and take a moment to recommed this meditation to others as a helpful tool in dealing with these challenging times.

How does Raleigh Meditation accommodate beginners joining as a group?

Raleigh Meditation is notably beginner-friendly, which is an essential advantage for groups that include members new to meditation. Their Sunday Reading Service is strongly recommended for newcomers, featuring shorter meditation intervals that gently ease participants into the practice without feeling overwhelmed. The instruction emphasizes personal connection and encourages attendees to engage in meditation “in the language of your heart,” which helps beginners feel authentic and unpressured. Group members have the benefit of arriving together, supporting each other as they learn and adapt to meditation techniques and spiritual chants. The availability of trained volunteers to greet visitors and assist them during their first visits further enhances the beginner experience. Newcomers can also sign up for formal Introductory SRF Lessons if they wish to deepen their knowledge. This approach fosters a welcoming learning environment, promoting gradual growth for each member while reinforcing group solidarity through shared learning discovery.

Meanwhile, the 11 a.m. Sunday Reading Service includes pauses for affirmation, chanting, and shorter meditations, which create a gentle and engaging flow ideal for newcomers or groups with mixed experience levels. The inclusion of sacred readings from Paramahansa Yogananda adds a philosophical and inspirational element that often sparks meaningful discussion post-service. The voluntary offertory acknowledges community support but does not impose fees, making participation straightforward. The opportunity to join conversations after services fosters a communal atmosphere where groups can bond over shared reflections in a serene setting.

How can families benefit from visiting Raleigh Meditation together?

Family meetups here promote not only individual well-being but also collective peace and mindfulness, which can positively influence family dynamics outside mediation times. The inclusive ethos encourages families to grow together spiritually, nurturing habits of contemplation, patience, and kindness. By attending as a family, members of all ages connect on a deeper level, often fostering shared memories of calm and connectedness that enrich family cohesion.

The readings from Paramahansa Yogananda during Sunday sessions and other events introduce participants to influential spiritual teachings that encourage personal reflection and growth. The opportunity to chant, pray, and engage in affirmations strengthens the vibrational atmosphere and nurtures a communal sense of purpose. These activities provide excellent material for group discussion and reflection, enhancing the overall experience. Additionally, the option to learn SRF’s meditation techniques via free lessons supports members in deepening their personal practice beyond group settings. This blend of meditation and study enriches both the mind and heart, making Raleigh Meditation a balanced environment for holistic spiritual development.
