Why REI is a fun option when searching for things to do near me with friends and family
REI, or Recreational Equipment, Inc., stands out as a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts looking to equip themselves for a wide range of adventures. With 181 retail stores across 41 states and a robust online presence, REI offers an unparalleled selection of high-quality outdoor gear and apparel, including items for camping, hiking, climbing, cycling, water activities, running, fitness, and snow sports. REI doesn’t sell hunting or fishing equipment, focusing instead on inclusive, sustainable outdoor recreation gear and apparel for men, women, and children. What makes REI especially appealing for meeting friends or planning group outings is its experiential retail stores featuring bike trails and rock climbing walls, where customers can test gear firsthand and learn from experts. Additionally, REI provides educational classes, expert advice, gear rentals, and a used gear marketplace called Re/Supply, promoting sustainability and accessibility in outdoor recreation. This combination of product excellence, community engagement, and sustainable business practices creates a welcoming and inspiring environment for anyone passionate about the outdoors.

This store has almost everything! Big and comfortable store, if the best I've been in, in Salt Lake. Friendly staff, with good knowledge of their products. Will definitely come again.

Changing your account name shouldn’t feel like applying for CIA clearance. But here we are. Also… side note: most male employees don’t wash their hands after pooping. So yeah, don’t shake hands unless you’re into colon roulette. 🤢 Not only was I shocked that I couldn’t change my name through the app or website, but the process to do it over the phone was absurd. I had to verify my full name, home address, the year I opened my account, every store I’ve ever stepped foot in, and even the last few items I bought. I was waiting for them to ask for my blood type or nipple diameter. Maybe even what position I sleep in on Tuesdays. And just when I thought it was over, they had to call two other locations to approve the change. 15 minutes on the line just to be told “okay, you’re good now.”

The lady who helped me purchased binoculars to go to Miller Park was so knowledgeable and helpful. I found the perfect pair. Even when I was checking, the cashier was so kind. She even helped me look up to see if there was an REI location near me. There's one in Memphis, so now, I am a life member, and I am looking forward ot seeking out the REI in Memphis to get more gear.

Staff are generally friendly, helpful and competent. Selection is solid. For an outdoor store, though, the hours aren’t great. If you’re thinking of picking something up as you’re heading out of town, forget it - unless you don’t mind getting a very late start.
