Retro Boat Rentals ATX offers a uniquely charming and memorable way to enjoy Austin's iconic Lady Bird Lake. Situated on the north shore at the Waller Creek Boathouse, this business specializes in renting out vintage fiberglass boats from the late 1950s and early 1960s, famously known as the jet-age era. These beautifully restored boats come in vibrant retro colors including yellow, pink, and baby blue, evoking a strong mid-century aesthetic that sets the mood for a nostalgic getaway on the water. Each boat is quiet and eco-friendly, equipped with electric motors that reach a top speed of only 4.5 mph, ensuring a peaceful, relaxing cruise that lets you soak in spectacular views of the Austin skyline. We were looking for a fun and different way to explore Austin when we stumbled across Retro Boat Rentals; it delivers that in spades! It is exceptionally easy to book your adorable boat online and fill out the pertinent waivers required ahead of your visit. When we arrived, we were greeted by two exceptionally nice young men. Max, the dock hand who showed us the ropes, was very friendly and we appreciated his explanation of the boat, the areas to avoid and the "rules of the road". We got to cruising and, as it was a Thursday morning, had the water to ourselves. It was very peaceful and we were happy to spend the morning doing something so fun and relaxing. I was happy for the shaded canopy over the cute vessel "Ethel" and could see in the summer months having it be absolutely essential for enjoying the experience. Max was brilliant in his suggestions for lunch nearby and I would not hesitate to recommend this experience to friends and family. It would be so fun to do a photoshoot on these little jewel box boats!

100% worth the money! Fun way to cruise around Town Lake. 5 mph is kind of perfect. Plenty of space in the boat. Highly recommend a covered/ boat with roof during a super sunny/hot day. I believe they provide umbrellas but you don’t want to hold an umbrella, you want to hold hands. The folks at the dock, both at the departure and return were all super sweet and really personable. I was super impressed by the entire process and transaction! Had a blast!

Renting a retro boat from Retro Boat Rentals, at Lady Bird Lake is an ABSOLUTE must while in Austin! We visited Austin from VA and decided to rent a super cute retro boat named Trixie. The whole process was so easy and when we got there we were greeted by Tate who was extremely friendly and helpful. When we got to our boat, Sam went through the details in a very comprehensive and patient manner. I had never operated a motorized boat and was a little nervous, but it was super easy to operate and navigate. Trixie was off the hook adorable, in all the pink and vintage pink and white seats to match! Sam and Tate gave us a matching pink blanket and umbrella, along with a Bluetooth speaker to use on our trip. The umbrella was definitely appreciated to keep the sun off of us (as it was extremely hot that day). Plus, it made for a great photo prop! 😁 We took Trixie out to Snake Island and back around the Congress Street Bridge. The trip took about lil over an hour. The boat traveled along at a nice slow and relaxing pace, which was great to enjoy to scenery of the lake and the city. Highly recommend!!! ☺️
